Today’s dog health tip:

Maintain a healthy weight...obesity in dogs can lead to joint problems, diabetes, and heart disease. Measure portions, avoid excessive treats, and keep up regular exercise.” ⚖️🐕

Even small daily walks and portion control can make a big difference in your dog’s long-term health.

Dog Health Tip of the Day: 🐾

Keep their teeth healthy! Just like humans, dogs can get tartar buildup, gum disease, and tooth decay. Brushing your dog’s teeth a few times a week (or daily, if possible) can prevent pain, infections, and even heart or kidney problems linked to dental disease.

Extra tips:

Use dog-safe toothpaste (never human toothpaste).
Offer dental chews or toys to help scrape plaque.

Regular vet dental check-ups are key, especially for small breeds who are more prone to dental issues.

Dog Tip of the Day: ❄️

I know it’s a little premature, but it’s better to begin preparing for the upcoming colder temps and winter weather here in Montana...especially for new residents who haven’t yet experienced sub-zero temperatures that are not uncommon here in Montana.

*Check paws regularly: Snow, ice, and de-icing salts can irritate paw pads. Consider dog booties or a paw balm.

*Adjust outdoor time: Shorten walks if it’s extremely cold, dogs can get frostbite too, especially on ears, tail, and paws.

*Layer up: Small or short-haired dogs may benefit from a warm dog sweater or jacket.

*Hydration still matters: Cold weather can be dehydrating; make sure fresh water is always available.

*Watch for winter hazards: Slippery ice, antifreeze spills, and snow clumps on fur can be harmful.

Bonus Montana tip: If your dog loves snow, let them romp, but always supervise and bring them inside to warm up frequently! 🐾

Dog Tip Of The Day.....

Your pet needs a warm, quiet place to rest, away from drafts and off the floor. A training crate or dog bed works well, with a clean blanket or pillow inside, and it’s important to wash your dog’s bedding regularly.

For dogs that spend time outdoors, make sure they have access to shade and plenty of cool water in hot weather, and a warm, dry, covered shelter when it’s cold. Dogs are den animals by nature, so a bed or crate can serve as a personal sanctuary where they feel safe and secure.

At Three Dog Ranch, our highly trained staff spend quality time with each canine guest...whether in the large, spacious yards or in their assigned suites, while also ensuring kennels and crates are thoroughly cleaned and sanitized daily, keeping every guest happy, healthy, and comfortable throughout their stay.

Interpreting Dog Facial Expressions and Body Language....

Facial Indicators of Emotion

* Eyes:
* Relaxed, slightly closed → content, happy
* Wide, tense, or showing whites → stress, fear

* Mouth:
* Relaxed, open → happy
*Tightly pulled back corners → stress or defensive aggression

* Ears:
* Perked up → alert, curious
* Laid back → fear, anxiety, submission

* Eyebrows:
* Raised or inner wrinkle → worry or tension
* “Puppy dog eyes” may be used to elicit nurturing response from humans

* Head Tilt:
*Sign of curiosity and engagement

* Tongue Flick:
*Quick flick to nose or lips → calming signal, stress, or anxiety

Contextual Clues...

* Whole-Picture Analysis:
Facial expressions should always be considered with body posture, tail position, and overall demeanor.

* Calming Signals:
Include tongue flicks, lip licking, or slow blinking

* Appeasement Gestures:
Lowered head, sad eyes → trying to communicate peace or submission

Key Takeaway: Dogs communicate emotions through a combination of facial expressions and body language. Always interpret their face in the context of the whole body to understand their true emotional state.
