Update on Diego -

He made it through the night without trying to lay down or roll any more!! 🙌
Ashlee checked on him around 3:15am and felt he was doing well enough to go to sleep for a little while (big mistake apparently), during which Diego Houdini’d himself out of the latched and tied corral! He then took it upon himself to find the soaking breakfast buckets and eat not one, not two but three other horses buckets of feed! 🤦🏼‍♀️
So needless to say he is back on colic watch again and is very upset with us for putting him back in time out!! But we’d rather he be mad at us than have something terrible happen to him! So for now, he will be closely monitored and we will keep sending updates to our amazing veterinarian who is our saving grace!

Huge shout out to Alexis for realizing Diego was off camera and flying over to the ranch to get him secured after not wanting to call and wake Ashlee up! We are so incredibly thankful for our village here and everything they do to help ensure these sweet souls are well taken care of!!

Please keep the prayers coming for our sweet boy!! 🩷

Please keep our sweet boy Diego in your prayers as we head to MSU. He started showing signs of colic and hasn’t pulled out of it, even after everything we’ve tried here at the ranch. Unfortunately we’re unable to find a vet that can come out as tonight is the night for colics and the ones we’ve been in contact with are on emergency calls already! 😔

Anyone else have a sheep who identifies as a dog?

Hi friends! We are searching for a few things within a low budget: youth western non-barrel western saddle (12”, 13”, 14”), youth English saddle (10”-15”) and jump standards (or jump cups)

“Horses will never break your heart, only your bones. You’ve got 206 of those, all good.”

Nothing says dedication like being bruised and broken but still showing up every day for those who count on you to be there for them! 🩷

- Thank you Alexis for the matching shirts!! 😂

‼️ Update on the 3 new rescues ‼️

🐴 Cadence (gelding) - Vet thinks he’s around 20 years old. He is extremely thin and she didn’t want to do vaccines on him until he starts gaining some weight (understandably). We have him on a feed regimen to slowly start introducing grain and will increase his amount over the span of a few weeks. We will reevaluate him at that time and will do monthly weight checks to make sure we are on the right track. We will have the farrier out to start getting his feet back in order and are hoping he won’t need corrective shoes!

🐴 Indigo “Indy” (mare) - In a surprising turn of events, Indy is confirm via ultrasound to be pregnant (about 3-4 weeks along, so still very new). Vet thinks she was probably used as a recip mare (brood mare) and previous owners dumped her when she didn’t take again. She’s around 20 years old but has such a calm disposition to her. We will reevaluate her again in a couple of weeks via ultrasound again to ensure she is in fact pregnant and it wasn’t a possible cyst, but the vet is 99% confident she saw the “gummy bear” and feels confident enough for us to share the pregnancy announcement! We have started her on some grain to help with the growing baby, as she is a perfect weight as it is but will need those extra calories for the baby! Her feet are definitely not great and the vet thinks she may need corrective shoes, but we will see what the farrier says and possibly have X-rays done of her feet to ensure she is comfortable! We did vaccinate her as she is healthy enough to receive them and would not pose a risk to the baby!

🐴 Fiora (pony mare) - We weren’t able to confirm if she was pregnant or not as she was definitely feeling a bit spicy (red pony mare, go figure 😅). She is extremely round, so either she’s a very fat pony that needs to go on a diet or she is definitely pregnant! Unfortunately, the vet is pretty confident that the eye injury she has is cancer and will need to be removed as it’s causing her pain. She is going to consult with the ophthalmologist to be sure and together, they will create a plan to remove her eye and ultrasound her at that time to confirm or deny pregnancy as she will definitely need to be sedated even just for her ultrasound. Her feet aren’t terrible, which is a relief! We weren’t able to vaccinate her right now, so we will hold off until we can get confirmation from the vet when she feels we are able to!

Every decision we make regarding the health and safety of our horses is made with direct oversight from our veterinarian. While we wish we could expedite things, we have to take them slow, especially when dealing with neglected and malnourished horses.

For now, all 3 of them are in quarantine for at minimum the next two weeks and will receive lots of love and care with unlimited hay, fresh water and any thing else they may need!

While they appear overall healthy, we cannot take any chances that they could have underlying health issues and risk exposure to our other horses. So if you find yourself out here at the ranch, we ask that you do not touch them until they have been cleared by the vet! 🩷

Thank you all for your love and support in helping us continue our mission to save lives and give them a fresh start! We continue to operate solely on the donations from those of you who help as well as out of our own pockets!
If you find it in your heart to help with the current vet bills as well as the upcoming eye surgery for Fiora, we would be incredibly grateful! You can donate directly to us using any of the options below:

🎉🌻 HAPPY BIRTHDAY, SARAH!! 🌻🎉

Some people walk into your life and simply become a part of it… and then there are people who somehow weave themselves into the heart of everything you’re building. Sarah, you are one of those people. ❤️

Fortify Ranch would not be the same without you.

You give so much of yourself to this place—not just through the work you do, the horses you care for, the lessons you teach, or the countless times you step in wherever you’re needed—but through the heart you bring with you every single day.

You have this incredible way of making people feel comfortable, welcomed, capable, and important. You encourage people when they doubt themselves, celebrate their victories (even the tiny ones), make them laugh when they need it most, and somehow manage to leave an impact on just about everyone who gets the opportunity to meet you.

And the animals know it, too. ❤️

Rescue work isn’t always beautiful. There are long days, heartbreaking days, exhausting days, and days when you wonder how there could possibly be enough of you to go around. Having someone beside you who is willing to show up for all of it—the good, the messy, the heartbreaking, and the absolutely ridiculous—is something you can never put a price on.

You aren’t just someone who helps at Fortify Ranch.

You are part of its heart. You are part of its family. You are part of its story. 🌻

I hope you know how loved, appreciated, and valued you are—not just today because it’s your birthday, but every single day. I hope you see even a fraction of what the rest of us see in you and realize just how many lives, both two-legged and four-legged, are better because you’ve been a part of them.

Thank you for loving this crazy place, these animals, and the people who walk through our gates. Thank you for believing in what we’re building and for putting so much of your heart into helping us build it.

Most importantly, thank you for simply being you.

Happy Birthday, Sarah!! 🥳🩷🌻🐴

Here’s to another year of horses, adventures, laughter, probably a little chaos 😂, lives changed, memories made, and continuing to make Fortify Ranch the special place that it is.

We love you more than you know. ❤️

They are home!!! Thanks to you all, we pulled not only the 2 we planned, but pulled a pony that we just couldn’t leave behind. Shes young, has an eye issue and we believe she’s pregnant.

Please consider donating still. These guys have a long and expensive road to travel and we need all the help we can get. We have a vet appointment scheduled already so stay tuned!
