Bailee is turning 3 this summer and after Lola letting her be around and play with this litter she has gone full speed into wanting to be a mom! Up until now she still seemed very puppy like so we didn’t plan to breed her anytime soon (if at all if she didn’t show signs of being ready ) this litter of Lola’s , everything changed ! Lola let be around this litter a lot and something just clicked and she is now obsessed with babies! We are going to get some weight on her, get her scans , and let her be a mama like she is soo eager to be !! She’s going to be such an amazing mama too !!

A couple weeks ago we started the first step, open door crate ! Hope is they associate the crate with the comfort they felt snuggled up with their litter mates in it. (They will go home with a blanket that has their litter mate scents on it to help them feel that comfort ) .

Our girls ended up loving the crate and we called it “their room” they would go take their toys in there and lay down when they wanted and we eventually only needed to close it when leaving the house or at night. By the first year or so , they were safe to be left open all the time and only there for if they wanted it . As they slowly stopped going in, we removed . Not all dogs will love it, but many will seek it out if introduced properly bc they will find comfort in it . In the puppy phase there are soo many destructive things they can get into so it’s for their safety ( and your home ) to be sure they are safely secured when you aren’t able to give them your undivided attention in the early stages . If they aren’t loving an enclosed crate or you don’t have the space for a large one consider a portable fencing pen that you can keep them in ( with water and grass pad to potty on in the beginning . Be sure the pen is blocking any walls or trim bc as a puppy they will chew anything and everything without your consistent redirection ) . If you choose to crate or not is 100% a personal preference, just as long as you have a plan to keep them safe when your eyes aren’t on them. There are lots of great articles online to show how to properly begin crate training, their first intro is reallly important ! If they feel forced in too quickly or for too long it will cause stress and anxiety rather than comfort. We have started the first step and they all go in and out of the crate stress free. 🐾❤️

Crate training doesn't have to be stressful. Follow this step-by-step guide to teach your dog or puppy to love their crate at their own pace.

Love this intro to BMD🐾❤️ We have had At LEAST 5 become Certified Therapy / Service dogs ! They are amazing therapy dogs and family dogs .
*Note the AKC size standard on the back wall from AKC—- females 70-95lbs and males UP To 115lbs!! This is soo important and a huge factor in how we are working to preserve and better the breed. I know the big bears that are 130+ lbs are absolutely gorgeous However… they are NOT meant to be that big and that contributes to the shorter life expectancy and quality of life . They are not meant to be as large as a St Bernard. We have purposely chosen to breed with a male that is 115 or less to contribute to the process of making the breed healthy and back to their intended sizing. Sooo many people will see a BMD that is absolutely perfect sizing and they will comment they are small . 🙈 the problem is all the promotion of the oversized bears and subsequent breeders that are PURPOSELY advertising that dad is 130lbs+ like it’s a good thing ! It’s a sales tactic bc they know people love the big bears. It’s heartbreaking bc they don’t care about the breed and are taking advantage , completely ignoring the actual increased health risks they are contributing to.

Bigger isn’t better . Bred to be Healthy, is.

Yesterday we had the most beautiful visitor. This is Koa from Kaia’s litter. He came with his family to meet his new brother! He looks soo much like her I had to contain myself from just smothering him with hugs and actually calling him Kaia. It was so so amazing to see Kaia again through her baby. It helped remind me what this is all about . It was about keeping a part of her after she was gone , it was about giving other families that same indescribable love that we have for her. And it was about preserving and bettering the breed. So we all have our babies happy and healthy for as long as possible . So here is Koa, her splitting image son, standing at her little memorial we started . We will plant trees and put a bench and make it special. Because SHE was so special . ❤️🐾

Puppy go home folders came today ! Super excited to get their go home baskets together and happy I upgraded their AKC papers to have the folder with new puppy tips !

The most important and immediate one I would suggest is don’t overwhelm the pup with visitors on the first couple days . It’s super exciting and everyone is going to be so excited to meet the new family member but limit the first couple days to in home family only . Give them that time to adjust and bond with you first and not overwhelm them . There are lots more tips in the folder from AKC about introducing them to other pets and slowly showing them around the house etc 🙂

* I would recommend having a grass pad , a crate /gated area ready to give them a safe enclosed space , and their food ready. We use science diet large breed puppy ( I will give you some to get you home ). I would also suggest setting up a trainer ! If you are local I can give you the name of the wonderful lady we used for all of our girls and since we are using her again for our girl she gives discount for any litter mates. If local she comes right to your home and was amazing at getting the basics established and it is SUPER important you start early and learn how YOU continue training. Even though we know all the methods already we still use her bc it’s super helpful to have an outside influence help set the basics and you continue to build on them. ( also early puppy stage can be exhausting so getting a little break is kinda nice too !) .

I will include a list in your packet of all our favorites from training collars and harnesses , to chew toys , to grass pads , vacuum cleaners and brushes . 🙂
