Cats Limited Veterinary Hospital

Cats Limited Veterinary Hospital Cats Limited Veterinary Hospital in West Hartford is proud to be an award-winning, cat-only practice.

Our commitment is simple: provide the highest standard of veterinary medicine while treating every cat with the compassion and respect they deserve. Cats Limited opened its doors on January 5th, 1995 in a leasehold storefront on Farmington Avenue in West Hartford. The cat only practice offered patients and their families something different: care focused just on cats, in a calm and safe environmen

t with individualized care for every patient. Over the following years, and as the demand for uniquely high-quality cat care grew, so did Cats Limited. By 2006, Cats Limited outgrew the original facility and Dr. Lafer purchased the current building on New Britain Avenue. After extensive renovations, we moved to our new hospital in August 2007. The move to our new facility brought with it the ability to provide even better medical and surgical care and an upscale boarding facility. Today, the Cats Limited team continues to be led by Dr. Lafer and includes two other feline veterinarians and a talented and caring support team. Cats Limited Veterinary Hospital is proud to be the first feline-only hospital in Connecticut that is accredited by the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA). This is important to you and your pet because since 1996, we have regularly undergone extensive voluntary evaluations by AAHA to ensure that we exceed the association’s high-quality standards of care.

🩺From the Vet's Desk:
Feline Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM) is the most common heart disease in cats—and it often goes unnoticed. In fact, 1 in 7 cats may be affected, and not all cats with HCM will have a heart murmur during their exam.

That’s why early screening is so important. The Cardiopet proBNP Heart Health Test can help detect heart disease before symptoms appear, giving cats the best chance for early care and monitoring.

👉 Ask us about adding the Heart Health Test to your cat’s next visit to help protect their heart health. 💙🐾

🎉Introducing… Cat Tales of Cats Limited: The Chronicles of Willow and Lavender 😻

Meet Willow and Lavender—our resident clinic cats, hallway supervisors, keyboard warmers, and self-appointed bosses of everything.

🐾Lavender: Opinionated. Bite-y. Clearly in charge. Whether she's judging from her rainbow throne or enforcing snack schedules with teeth, Lavender brings just the right amount of chaos to clinic life.

🐾Willow: A certified chonk and lap enthusiast. She's here for snuggles, warm laps, and the occasional dramatic flop. Don’t let the chub fool you—she supervises with love (and the occasional bite).

Each week, we’ll share a peek into their lives here at Cats Limited. From their critical inspections of lunchboxes to their totally unbiased opinions on staff performance, no detail is too small for their majestic oversight.

Stay tuned each week for their antics, wisdom, sass, and surprisingly relatable clinic cat commentary.

Because at Cats Limited… the cats don’t just get care.
They give it. Sometimes.

International Cat Day has us marveling at our feline friends' incredible abilities! 🐱✨

Those adorable ears aren't just for show - they're sophisticated sound-detecting instruments that put our human hearing to shame. This amazing ear mobility is why your cat always seems to know exactly when you're opening a treat bag from three rooms away, or can detect the tiniest mouse rustling in the walls. It's also why they can sleep peacefully through loud music but instantly wake up at the sound of their food being poured!

What's the most impressive thing you've noticed about your cat's hearing?

Not all vaccines are the same—some are essential for every pet, others depend on your pet’s lifestyle and location. 🐱

Core vaccines protect against the most serious and contagious diseases, while non-core vaccines are tailored to your pet’s needs.

🦷 Think your pet's mouth looks fine? These 3 warning signs could mean serious dental trouble:

- Bad breath that won't go away: It's not just "pet breath," it signals bacterial infections
- Yellow or brown tartar buildup: This leads to painful gum disease and tooth loss
- Changes in eating habits: Dropping food, chewing on one side, or avoiding hard treats means dental pain

Professional dental exams can catch these problems early and prevent painful infections, tooth loss, and even heart or kidney damage from untreated dental disease.
