Monday Night Pack Walks!!

As the temperatures begin to cool and the days slowly get shorter, we love making the most of the last weeks of summer with our evening pack walks before welcoming fall.

Our pack walks are great for dogs of all shapes, sizes, and training levels. The goal is to give dogs and their people hands-on, real-world training experience with professional trainers present to offer guidance and support as needed.

You don't need the "perfect" dog to participate! Everyone who joins these pack walks is working on something. Whether you're working on loose-leash walking, helping your dog stay calm around other dogs or people, building confidence in new environments, or simply looking for a fun evening out together, we're here to help!

If you or someone you know would like to join us for our next pack walk, we'd love to have you! To reserve your spot, email us at [email protected].

We can't wait to hit the trails with you and your pups!

🚨 Pet Parents: Today's Air Quality is HAZARDOUS (717 as of this moment)🚨

Today's wildfire smoke has pushed our air quality into a level that can be dangerous—not just for people, but for our pets too. This isn't just a "hazy day." The fine particles in wildfire smoke can irritate the lungs and make it difficult to breathe, especially for puppies, senior pets, brachycephalic (flat-faced) breeds, and dogs with heart or respiratory conditions. Current forecasts indicate northeastern Minnesota is experiencing some of the worst air quality in the state.

Dogs can't choose to slow down because the air is bad. A happy Lab playing fetch or a Border Collie chasing friends will keep exercising long after it's wise to do so, which is why we make that decision for them.

How to help keep your pets safe today:
• Keep outdoor time as short as possible. Stick to quick potty breaks instead of long walks or games of fetch.
• Keep windows and doors closed if you can. If you have air conditioning or an air purifier, today is a great day to use it.
• Make sure fresh water is always available. Staying hydrated helps support your pet's overall health.
• Skip strenuous exercise. A day off from hiking, running, daycare, or intense play is far safer than risking smoke inhalation.

‼️ Watch for signs of smoke irritation, including:
• Coughing
• Wheezing
• Difficulty breathing
• Excessive panting
• Red or watery eyes
• Lethargy
IF YOUR PET IS HAVING TROUBLE BREATHING OR SEEMS DISTRESSED, CONTACT YOUR VETERINARIAN RIGHT AWAY.

We know our dogs love being outside, but they'll be just as happy with a stuffed Kong, a sniffy game indoors, or a little extra cuddle time until the air clears. Don't hesitate to look up some fun ways to spend this extra indoor time with your pets.

At The Homeschooled Pooch, the health and safety of every dog always comes first. Because of today's hazardous air quality, all outdoor activities have been canceled. We'd much rather miss a day of adventures than put anyone's lungs at risk.

Stay safe, everyone—and give your pups an extra hug from us today. 💙💛

It may be the first Wednesday of the month, but this is not a test!

With the Fourth of July just around the corner, we want to remind everyone of ways to keep their dogs safe and secure this holiday weekend.

Fireworks can be incredibly frightening for many dogs. Every year, shelters see an increase in lost pets because frightened dogs panic and escape from homes, yards, or even while out on walks.

Here are a few ways you can help your dog feel safer:
🐾 Keep them indoors during fireworks. If you need to go outside with your dog keep them on a leash with a properly fitted collar or harness.
🐾 Make sure collars and ID tags are up to date (and microchip information is current!).
🐾 Close windows, curtains, and blinds to help reduce the sights and sounds.
🐾 Play calming music, a fan, or the TV to help mask the noise.
🐾 Give your dog a safe, cozy place to retreat where they feel secure.
🐾 If your dog has severe anxiety, talk with your veterinarian ahead of time about medication options.

A little preparation can go a long way toward making the holiday less stressful for everyone—especially our four-legged family members.

Stay safe, and have a happy Fourth of July! 🇺🇸🐶

Leashes ready… let’s roll!

Who's ready for our Pack Walks to be back at full force now that the weather is cooperating?

This isn’t just a casual stroll — it’s a structured, guided walk designed to help your dog:
✔️ Stay calm around other dogs
✔️ Practice polite leash skills
✔️ Build confidence in real-world environments
✔️ Learn to exist without losing their mind (we love that for them)

Whether your dog gets a little too excited, a little too nervous, or just needs some real-life practice… this is where the magic happens. ✨

👣 What to expect:
– Calm, structured walking (well...as calm as possible for each individual dog - that's what these are for you know)
– Coaching and guidance from us along the way
– Safe spacing between dogs
– Real-life training in a supportive environment

Spots are limited! To reserve yours today, please email us at [email protected]. You also do not need to be a current or former client to reserve your slot.

🐶✨ ATTENTION: Tiny Chaos Gremlins Welcome ✨🐶

Puppy Preschool is officially continuing… and now we have a REAL schedule (look at us being organized and everything).

If your puppy is:
• biting your ankles
• stealing socks like it’s a full-time job
• making questionable life choices

…we can help 😌

Our Puppy Preschool is all about:
✔️ Confidence (not just “sit” and “down”)
✔️ Real-world skills
✔️ Teaching your puppy how to think instead of panic

And maybe most importantly — teaching YOU what’s actually going on in that little puppy brain.

We keep our groups small on purpose, so spots go fast.
If you’ve got a puppy (or one coming soon), now’s the time. Email us at [email protected] for more information and registration materials.

Let’s raise dogs you actually enjoy living with. 🐾
