We all know dogs eat silly things. Depending on what your pet eats, there are different protocols for treatment. For things like eating grapes or chocolate, prompt decontamination by inducing vomiting is essential for a positive outcome. However, if your pet ingested a caustic chemical or sharp object, vomiting can cause further damage. Toys, bones, socks, and string that are swallowed can cause dangerous blockage in the stomach and intestines resulting in emergency surgery. That is why we always recommend calling a veterinarian as your first step when things like this happen!

Can you guess what the dog in this photograph ate? (hint: it is common around Halloween!)

Let’s talk about pet dental health! 🦷🪥

Periodontal disease is the most common clinical disease affecting adult dogs & cats, and it is almost completely preventable! Periodontal disease causes the destruction of bone and will spread unseen below the gumline. As the disease progresses, it can lead to mobile and painful teeth. By the time that the bad breath and loose teeth are noticed, there is already significant damage present.

The good news is that regular dental cleanings under anesthesia, combined with the daily brushing of teeth can prevent this! During a dental cleaning, the pet’s mouth is thoroughly evaluated, cleaned, and radiographed to identify any disease hiding below the gumline. Take a peek at the included images to see before and after pictures of one of our star patients, Smokey, while he was undergoing his annual dental cleaning.
