As many of you know, we recently lost a very dear friend, Jim Black.

Those who knew Jim knew the generosity, kindness, and heart he poured into the Waxhaw community. He gave so much of himself to the people and town he loved, and his impact will be felt for many years to come.

Now, Jim’s family needs the support of the community he cared for so deeply. A fundraiser has been created to help with the expenses associated with his funeral and memorial service.

Please consider making a donation, of any amount, to help ease the burden on Jim’s family and honor the incredible legacy he leaves behind. Sharing the fundraiser is also a meaningful way to help.

This past weekend, Dr. Brue, Dr. Izzy, and Dr. Bonilla reunited with their veterinary school friend, Dr. Cepero-Gomez, for a fun girls’ trip to see the Backstreet Boys! 🎤✨

Lifelong friendships are one of the greatest gifts of this profession, and taking time to reconnect helps us return refreshed and ready to care for your furry family members.

We’re also excited to share that Dr. Brue will be returning to Passionate Paws for six weeks this October and November! We know many of you will be just as excited as we are to welcome her back. 🐾

It is with very heavy hearts that we say goodbye to our dear friend, Jim Black, who passed away on Sunday.

We were blessed to know Jim for more than 10 years. When Passionate Paws first opened, he became an integral part of helping us spread the word throughout the community. He introduced us to more people than we could ever count and made sure we felt connected and welcomed.

Jim was truly the unofficial mayor of Waxhaw—a man about town who seemed to know everyone, and whom everyone seemed to know. Over the years, I learned so much from him—not only about his remarkable life, but from the wisdom, stories, and lessons he so generously shared.

He was a friend to all of us: kind, gentle, welcoming, and always carrying a heart of gold. Waxhaw will not be the same without him, and neither will we.

Jim will be deeply missed, but he will never be forgotten.

And knowing Jim, we are pretty sure the first thing he did when he arrived in heaven was take a selfie with God—both of them giving a big thumbs-up.

Rest peacefully, our dear friend. We will always be grateful that you were part of our lives. ❤️

This sweet girl has come such a long way, and seeing her happily enjoying her favorite churu is a reminder that patience, consistency, and compassion can make all the difference.
