Niblet came in a few days ago to see us and was not very happy about being in her kennel. We asked if she wanted a temp job assisting Amelia in the reception area as a greeter and she happily agreed! We think she did a great job! Did anyone get to meet her?

Today is so of course we had to celebrate Anne when she came in for her final kitten visit!! She was so brave for her shots, but was not a big fan of her dewormer! Isn’t she adorable? Please always tag us in pictures of your pets so we can share!

Media Release - Rabies Notification

June 26, 2025

On Wednesday, June 25, 2025, Matthews Animal Control located and removed a raccoon from the 14200 block of Phillips Road and transported it for rabies testing. The results of those tests have determined that the raccoon was positive for rabies. There have been no reported human exposures.

If you or any of your pets have recently come into contact with a raccoon in the area of Phillips Road or the surrounding area, please contact the Mecklenburg County Health Department immediately at 704-614-6512 or 704-589-3242.

If an animal has been exposed to the rabies virus, it may not show symptoms for 21-28 days. For that reason, please remain vigilant for the next 30 days for any animals in this or the surrounding areas that may show symptoms of this virus. If you do see animals showing symptoms, please call your local Animal Control office immediately.

Handsome Hugo came in to get his flu shot (and lots of love from our staff)! Did you know dogs can get influenza? If your pet is a social butterfly and frequents public places, they may be a good candidate for this vaccine! We recommend contacting your pet’s vet if you have any questions!

Emma came in today for her check up after she was found after going missing. She was finally able to be reunited with her owners after OVER 30 days of being gone!! She looks to be doing okay and is very happy to be home! It is so important to make sure your pets are microchipped and have a way to be identified. We are so grateful Emma made it home safe to her family!
