Due the high winds and the potential of rain or drizzle, the hayride won't be running and the inflatables can't be inflated this afternoon. Therefore I have made the difficult decision to CLOSE today. I am SO sorry but will to be open Wednesday. Thank you for understanding.

Our Story

Kiefer Farms (previously known as Kiefer Produce) has been around for 3 generations here in Waterloo, Iowa. Kiefer Produce on Texas St was first started by Grandpa Kiefer (Earl) and after working side by side for many years, the farm was handed down to his son Rick. Rick, and his wife Julie, have been carrying on the family tradition together since 1980. Together they have expanded to what Kiefer Farms is now. They run the farm now with the help of their daughter Amanda and her husband Brandon. Amanda and her family will be the 3rd generation to live on the farm and carry on the tradition.

For each season of the year, a lot of planning goes into play. During the winter months, Rick and Julie are busy planning for the upcoming growing season. In about late February/early March, they fire up the furnaces and start preparing the greenhouse for flower plugs to arrive. They start filling pots with dirt, planning the perfect flower combinations, and making sure that the irrigation lines are cleared. Once the flowers arrive, they begin to construct beautiful premium flower baskets for many to enjoy. But since not all plants have to start from plugs, they also spend late nights planting seeds into seed trays. Once they are ready, they are transferred into larger pots to promote more growth. Rick and Julie truly have the green thumb.

Now, once the weather starts to get warmer, it’s time to focus on produce. Most people would agree that there is nothing better than fresh summer produce! Throughout the season, Kiefer Farms provides customers with a wide variety of the highest quality in season produce. From farm fresh tomatoes and sweet corn to green beans and zucchini, if you can think of it, they probably grow it! (And if they don’t, they can definitely send you in the right direction!)

Once September arrives though, the true fun begins. Rick and Julie LOVE Halloween and spend months planning and the entire month of September (and sometimes some of August as well) preparing for the fall harvest and the Halloween fun. If you’ve been out to the farm during Halloween, you know that there are hundreds and hundreds of pumpkins and other fall favorites to choose from and Halloween fun for the entire family. The Kiefer’s strive to provide the Cedar Valley with a place to go for Halloween fun that can involve the entire family.
