Been a minute since I've posted anything so it's overdue. Just packaged and shipped 3 more pheasant and now I wait fingers crossed hoping they make it without damage. I've got a couple birds that will be coming in soon and wanted to let everyone know I'm now full and won't be excepting any more. Thanks to everyone who has trusted me with your trophies over the years. Hope you all have a safe and happy holiday season and I'll post projects every so often as I complete them. Got some beautiful blue geese and speckle bellies coming up soon.

One of the things I worry about most is when I have to ship birds to out of state clients. Once I hand them off to the shipper I have zero control of how they are handled. It's a huge relief when I get a message like this one

So it's been quite a while since I posted. A lot going on and several birds ready to go home. Pheasants will be headed to New Mexico in a few days. The juvie snow and blue will be part of a multiple bird mount in memory of a lab and thankfully the canada is the last of those I'll do. Have a pintail on the bench to get posed and drying area will be full for a week or so. Have a couple more pheasant up next then back to ducks. I hope everyone is having a safe and fun start to the season!!

I hope everyone is having a great weekend and you're staying cool. Wanted to post a couple things and this might get a little long but I'll keep it as short as I can. First I had mentioned in an earlier post that I would only be taking 25 birds for the 25 season. I'm going to reduce that to 10. My federal license expires end of March 2026 and I don't think I'm going to renew it. Also those 10 birds will be the last commercial work I do. It's time for me to retire and there's a lot of things on my bucket list I plan to do and I'm just not going to have the time to continue doing commercial work. I'm very thankful that so many of you have allowed me to do your trophies and a lot of you are not just clients but also friends! I've had a pretty incredible career in taxidermy but it's time to concentrate on other things. I also have several projects that have not been picked up and I will reach out to those people to make arrangements to take care of them. As I've stated in several of my posts I will gladly help you find another taxidermist in the future. I've been fortunate to meet some incredible taxidermist over the last couple years going to state shows and I'd trust them to do work for me. I will make another post closer to seasons as to how I will take in the work I do for 2025. I will continue to maintain and post future birds as I get them done. Thanks again to all of you who have allowed me to take care of your special trophies!

Skinning birds and wanted to point a couple things out. Starting with keeping your birds clean. I understand that we sometimes shoot these birds in muddy fields and marshes but do your best to keep them as clean as possible. Especially a white bird such as this Ross. I'm actually going to try some different techniques to clean this bird to see if the staining can be removed. The Mallard pictured has a tear that goes from the leg all the way under the wing. This bird will be part of a multi bird dead mount so I'll be able to mount it and hide any problems. With that said I will no longer take frozen birds. This will allow me to inspect the bird and address any problems with the clients present. I've said this before but you're paying a good amount of money to have your trophies mounted so starting with a nice specimen is very important to a good mount. How your bird is taken care of in the field has more to do with the final outcome than anything I do in the taxidermy process. Hope you all have a good day.

Little more finish work and this Northern and Walleye are done. Another Walleye will be finished tomorrow. New driveway is poured so I'll keep shop closed until next Friday. Looking ahead to the 2025 season I'm going to make a few changes. First I will only be taking 25 birds next year. I've got a lot on my schedule the next couple years so to keep a reasonable turnaround time and not spend 12hr days doing taxidermy I have to do this. I'm also considering not taking any new clients. Most of you have brought me several projects and I appreciate that and want to be available to take any birds you want done in the future. Finally I will be increasing prices on all birds by $35. This is the average cost increase for the new materials I'm using to give you the best bird I can do for you. Hope you are all having a great weekend! Thanks to everyone for your continued support.

Have several projects done and ready to go home and a couple more will be done by end of this weekend. I will send individuals notifications to arrange pick ups. That said I'm currently having concrete poured so I won't have access to my building for a few days. Making another post soon concerning 2025 season prices and quotas. Hope you all have an amazing Memorial weekend and take a moment to remember why we celebrate!
