Every Breed Has Different Timing But A Schedule is Important for All Dogs.

A schedule does not mean every dog needs monthly haircuts. It means creating a routine suited to the dog’s:

Coat type
Lifestyle
Age
Health
Activity level

Examples:

A Shih Tzu may need grooming every 4–6 weeks.

A German Shepherd may need deshedding every 6–8 weeks.

A Boxer may mainly need baths, nails, and ear care on a routine basis.

In short, grooming schedules are important because they support a dog’s physical health, emotional comfort, and overall quality of life — regardless of breed or coat type. Find the perfect rhythm to keep your pet looking and feeling their very best 💕

A few weeks ago, our shop suffered a devastating loss when we said goodbye to the dog who started it all.
Many of our longtime clients will remember our beloved Smooch—an incredible standard poodle who walked miles through DC with Abby, handing out business cards and helping build Masterpiece from the ground up. From dog parks to happy hours to simply turning heads wherever he went, Smooch became a familiar and beloved presence across Washington, DC, thanks in no small part to the careful attention of our grooming manager, Katelyn.

But Smooch was more than just a shop dog. He was a loyal companion and best friend to Abby’s daughter, AnaVera, and a constant source of joy to everyone who knew him. After Abby and her husband, Mark, moved to the country, Smooch discovered a love for chasing young farm animals—so he returned to city life with our longtime groomer and manager, Jerrod.

Smooch adored Jerrod and his family, and continued his role at the shop as our trusted “test dog,” helping welcome and evaluate future Masterpiece stylists. Jerrod was by Smooch’s side when he peacefully left this earth, no doubt bounding across the rainbow bridge with the same exuberant gallop we all knew so well—perhaps even taking one joyful leap through heaven’s gates.
Smooch, we will miss you more than words can express. Thank you for being outgoing, boisterous, and endlessly lovable. Thank you for earning the trust of a city. Thank you for your intelligence, your gentleness, and the love you gave so freely. And most of all, thank you for helping build our dream.

We will never forget you.
