Crates can be scary to dogs who weren’t trained early on to be crated. Our Nap Condos are used in training to help with alleviating crate fear. Here, we use a snuffle mat to engage the brain and soothe anxiety.
We train at your dog’s pace to work through crate anxiety and help them understand that they can be a safe and comfortable spot to relax!

Our pups splashed around at Mini Montessori! We pulled out a cool (literally) game called bobbing where the pups learned to fish objects out of a pool!

Kimana had a great target practice session with our Montessori School pups! Targeting is presenting a “target” - in this case, a frisbee - and asking for them to touch it with their nose or paw.
Having a solid “touch” cue helps create a strong foundation for many other advanced skills and is also a helpful tool for asking your dog to refocus when they get too excited or distracted.

We’re so proud of the progress our current Puppy Head Start cohort is making! ❤️ The pups are really learning and growing more every day. During a recent class, the pups worked on desensitization to grooming by getting on to the grooming table, washing in the tub, and having their nails clipped. They also played on a new surface (the water in the pool) and met…themselves (in the mirror)!

Our TLC Walks are made for senior and disabled dogs, including dogs with chronic conditions like arthritis. They are customizable to focus on a senior or disabled dog’s particular needs and living situation - taking the time needed to make it enjoyable for them.
We help those who have difficulty with movement, slow the pace to allow time to stop and smell the roses, and provide enrichment games and activities that are compatible with any impairments or restrictions they have.

One of these things is not like the other…but they’re all friends! In our Dog Montessori School program, we work hard to understand each individual dog, pairing them with the right pups for playtime! This creates a controlled, comfortable, cohesive environment for them to learn and play!

Check out this Drop & Train session where Ian and Teddy worked on cafe manners in the city! They practiced a relaxation protocol since Teddy can struggle a bit with all the overstimulation and excitement around.
This overstimulation can come in the form of people and/or dogs walking around or just being close by, cars driving by, strollers, beeping, the wind, etc - really any stimulus gets him excited. Teddy doesn’t show any reactive behaviors, but these triggers prevent him from settling and being able to relax.
His guardian’s goals are to be able to visit cafes, breweries, and any dog-friendly location with him! You got this, Teddy!

Sybil appreciation post!😌👌😎 Meet Sybil, she has been coming to Patrick’s Pet Care for nearly 2 years now!
When Sybil started walking with us, she displayed some reactivity (lunging and barking) toward certain dog breeds and loud trucks. She seemed to always be on high alert as soon as she came out of her crate. By going at Sybils' pace, allowing her to make choices on her walks, and using positive counter conditioning, she has made great strides — her confidence has increased and her anxiety has eased! Now these triggers are rarer and are worked through on a case-to-case basis.
Sybil has also come a *long* way with grooming. As one of our monthly grooming customers, her consistent schedule has helped give her consistent positive experiences. She still doesn't enjoy it, and may never will, but tolerating it is a *big* deal for her. For example: we can fully clean her ears now. When she first started with us, she would quickly react (snapping, vocalizing) if we tried to clean her ears. She can also be dried with the high-velocity dryer without becoming stressed—whereas before she used to immediately vocalize, go after the hose, or try to get out of the tub. Her head and paws are her most sensitive areas, which is what she works on now during grooming visits - she has a goal of building confidence with paw handling and trimming around her face.
Her trainers all agree that Sybil is a sweet, smart, confident, loving girl who loves to run, chase, use her mind, play, and get love from people!

Originally from Buenos Aires, Argentina, Salvador began his career in the hospitality sector while going to school at night. He started as a receptionist, and rose to eventually become a conference manager at the leading and largest hotel chain in Latin America.
After graduating from the University of Buenos Aires with dual degrees in business administration and airline administration, Salvador put his education and dual language skills to work at American Airlines. He began as a customer service manager and was promoted to become the live animal transportation logistics manager for North and South America. Included in the job description was overseeing overnight boarding arrangements for pets on long haul journeys, which is how he discovered Patrick's Pet Care in 2017. Over the years, several dogs were boarded overnight at Patrick's Pet Care when they were in transit with American Airlines.
In his interview, Salvador said "I really love customer service and helping pet parents understand what their family's experience will be while they are in transit. Most people who transport a pet in cargo on a plane only do so once in their life. It can be a very scary experience for someone who has never done it, and it was my job to help them through that. I really enjoyed working with the customers and the animals, but I wanted to work at a company that prioritized the animals needs, and when I saw this job I knew it was meant to be based on my superior experience with Patrick's Pet Care years ago."
Salvador takes pride in his customer service and interpersonal skills, his problem solving ability, as well as his positive and optimistic attitude, even in stressful situations. He considers himself "team worker oriented" and highly adaptable. He loves learning from people who come from different cultures and backgrounds.
