Bennett is making some big strides in his training journey! 👏
The Dog Wizard - Walnut Creek Dog Training
One of the ways we're helping him work through his anxiety and reactivity is by generalizing the Place command in real-world environments. Today, that means practicing around park distractions like people, bikes, dogs, and everyday activity while learning to remain calm, focused, and engaged with his handler.
By asking Bennett to Place on different surfaces such as rocks, benches, curbs, and other objects, we're helping him build confidence, problem-solving skills, and trust in both himself and his handler. These exercises teach dogs that they can successfully navigate new and unfamiliar situations.
We start in lower-distraction environments and gradually increase the challenge as Bennett becomes more confident and successful. For dogs struggling with anxiety and reactivity, this step-by-step process helps build engagement, confidence, and the ability to look to their handler for guidance instead of reacting to everything happening around them.
We're proud of the progress Bennett is making and excited to continue building on his success, one step at a time.
