Happy Belated Birthday to our purr baby, Una. She turned 4 yesterday! We took her for an extra long wander/walk, which she enjoyed. (Yes, you can train a cat to wear a harness!) Today we wandered by this statue and it was the purrrfect "Kodak" moment....

I imagine that Una is whispering in the Buddha's ear, "Hey Buddy, Nirvana is being outside all the time...would you please help enlighten my parents...?" She loves her outdoor time, even when it's slightly wet out. It's such great enrichment for her--stalking and chasing animals, smelling the neighborhood news, creeping on our neighbors. Today she also almost caught a squirrel!

And yes, I'm a dog trainer with a cat. It's not that weird or unusual. It's nice to come home to kitty energy after working with dogs all day! Honestly, we walk Una everyday so sometimes it feels like we have a hybrid cat/dog! I am preparing to start fostering a pup soon though, but don't tell Una...!

Happy Client Testimonial!

"Jung is the best. She helps you to not just correct behavior but how to understand and form a deeper bond with your dog. My little dog, Luna, is a 3 1/2 year old chihuahua mini schnauzer. We got her at 12 weeks to be a companion for my disabled husband. He was her person and she was his princess. We lived on 5 acres and she spent hours a day in his lap but had to move him into hospice in Walnut Creek. I could see her heart breaking. Imagine moving from where she had been to assisted living, having her person missing from her life and now learning to accept me as her new person.

On top of it all, Luna was afraid of everything…people, animals and even leaves falling off of trees. I really thought I needed to re-home her where she could be happy again. My goals for Luna were to have her stop growling at everyone, being dog aggressive and walking on a leash which was a new skill and most of all be a happy little pup. Jung came to the rescue!!!

People who knew Luna from the start all comment on how she changed. Even the vet who had seen her in February was amazed at the transformation. We were blessed to meet Jung at the vet's office where I stopped her and asked for her card. That chance meeting has changed our life. Whatever your goals are for your pet you won’t go wrong with Jung as your pet parent coach."

It's World Book Day! This was my library of animal behavior, learning, and training books from a couple of years ago. I digitized most of it because we were moving and I didn't want to haul so many things! 😅 Since then I have continued to acquire more reading materials about all things dogs and cats in both physical and digital forms. I typically have at least 3-4 books on my bedside table at all times...I have to intentionally borrow or buy books that are not about behavior and training so I can take a breather from work when reading 🤓

Last month was also National Reading Month. In honor of both last month and today, I've created a new page on my website the "Pawsitive Bookshop." There you can find a collection of books I have read and recommend about canines and felines including behavior, body language, training, and even, poetry 🥰

My bookshop does not list all the books I've ever read on dogs and cats. Research is constantly challenging what we think we know about animals and learning, so I've been careful to not include titles that have very outdated information or concepts. There are also more books I want to add to my website's new resource page.

Dog training is a dynamic field that requires continuing education to stay up to date with the most effective, humane, and evidence-based methods for behavior change and learning. I love reading and I love learning, so books are a great avenue of professional development for me, but it is not the only way I keep up with latest best practices.

Please check out my bookshop and feel free to comment with your favorite animal learning and behavior title or one that you're currently reading!

Happy Client Testimonial!

"Working with Jung has been amazing! From scheduling and the first consult to training sessions and follow-ups, everything is so thoughtful and tailored to your dog.

We have a 5-year-old Formosan Mountain Dog named Devin, who can be pretty challenging. Jung took the time to really understand him and find what works best. She’s always learning and refining her techniques, which really shows in her work.

Her calm, grounding energy helped both me and Devin. She guided us through preparing for a new baby and worked on Devin’s barking when people come over — and we’ve seen real progress. The sessions gave us confidence and clear steps to keep building his skills. Highly recommend Jung!"

Food is a love language
I grew up in a family where food was a huge expression of love but I didn’t realize it until I left home. I’m Korean-American, and I lived in South Korea for a couple of years as a young adult. It was such a great learning experience for me. I learned that my mom’s quirks were very cultural including cooking food in bulk to feed a small army, and being overly generous, especially when feeding others. I now joke that there are no real rules for being a polite dinner guest in Korea except 1) enjoy the food (even if this means slurping up your noodles), and 2) eat more.

So why am I talking about food as a dog trainer? Well, because as a positive reinforcement trainer, I use food as a reward in a lot of my work with clients. And I have seen that dog parents often express love for their pups with food in quality and quantity. Sometimes, just quantity! I’m all for the best quality food my clients can buy for their fur babies. You can buy good quality pet food without breaking the bank, which can take a bit of time to research.

My concern is when my clients feed their dogs too much, often unintentionally. All those training treats can add up! Read more at my blog where I share resources on weight management and my favorite high value treat: https://www.pawsitivetraining.pet/pawsitive-tips/food-is-love

Fun photo by my amazing photographer friend and dog and horse mama, Katja Bresch. We were doing a test shoot with her pooch, Parker, and this is one of the outtakes. I'm holding the carrot! Check out her work at https://www.katjabphotography.com/dogs

THANK YOU 🙏🏽 for coming to Rossmoor Walnut Creek and doing a presentation for the Rossmoor Dog Park Club today! We loved learning about canine enrichment for our pups and alternatives to the dog park and walks when we’re under the weather or the weather’s not better! Our club members were engaged and appreciated your knowledge and expertise.

Happy Client Testimonial
“We can’t say enough great things about Jung! She helped our 5-year-old French bulldog work through serious resource-guarding issues after we’d already tried three other trainers with little success. Her methods are entirely positive, gentle, and based on understanding rather than punishment — and the difference has been incredible.

What really stood out is how she incorporated our whole family into the training process, helping us learn how to communicate and build trust with our dog. She truly went above and beyond her job, checking in regularly and celebrating every bit of progress with us. We’re so grateful for her patience, knowledge, and the confidence she’s helped restore in both our dog and our family. We will miss working with her but know she is a quick call away for anything that arises in the future.

Highly recommend her to anyone looking for real, lasting results through positive training!”

I had so much fun at my Lunch & Learn at Geary Vet on Thursday. The team voted on the topic of reactivity so I prepared a 30 min presentation on what “reactivity” is- the emotions and motivations behind common leash reactivity among pups, and a few tips and resources on reducing or preventing it. Everyone had great questions and input. I can’t wait to do another L&L with them!

Thank you for the opportunity to present on Puppy Foundations!
