🐈⬛ Meet Ty, he's just over a year old and a handsome boy!
🐈⬛ Ty first presented to us in February for vague clinical signs of decreased appetite, not gaining weight, lethargic and not keeping up with his litter mate in general. On exam, he had an increased body temperature but otherwise everything was normal.
🐈⬛ Testing was done to look for causes and ultimately, he was diagnosed with FIP (Feline Infectious Peritonitis) by exclusion.
🐈⬛ FIP is associated with a viral infection called feline enteric coronavirus when it mutates into FIP. It is unclear why it mutates into FIP in some cats and not in others.
🐈⬛ Historically, FIP did not have a treatment and was fatal in almost all cases unfortunately.
🐈⬛ Luckily for Ty and other cats with FIP, there is now an approved treatment with antiviral drugs and supportive care!
🐈⬛ Ty completed his 12 week treatment protocol and is doing great which we are so thankful for!! 💙
