People often ask us what the best part of rescue is. Is it the wagging tails? The successful adoptions? It’s all of that, but sometimes, it’s the stories that leave us in tears.

We recently received an update from the family of Brown Sugar Latte (now Roxie) that reminded us why we do what we do.

The family had originally planned to bring Roxie home on October 29th, but through a twist of fate, the date was moved up by 13 days. At just 10 weeks old, Roxie was a whirlwind of energy. Her new parents were ready for the challenge, even though their grown children jokingly told them they were "crazy" to take on a puppy at their age. Even Elvis the dog and Merlin the cat seemed to agree!

Life became a blur of late nights and crate training. Roxie’s parents divided and conquered the night shifts to make sure she got her potty breaks. But just one week after coming home, Roxie's nighttime cries were something more.

In the middle of the night on October 24th, Roxie’s mom woke up to her crying. Following Roxie’s lead, her mom found her husband unresponsive on the floor. She immediately called 911. Because Roxie sounded the alarm, dad is home today and doing great.

Looking back, the timing is chilling: If Roxie’s adoption date hadn’t been moved up, she wouldn't have been in that house on October 24th. Today, the "pack" is finally settling in. Elvis and Merlin have officially accepted their new hero sister. As Roxie’s mom told us: “Our kids are so grateful we got this puppy when we did. Otherwise, it would be a very different Christmas this year.”

Honestly, we’re just as confused as you are.

Beverly checks every box. She’s sweet, loyal, house trained and obviously gentle with tiny pups She has the kind of calm, loving energy people say they want. And yet… she’s still waiting for a forever family.

Somehow, her forever family just hasn’t found her yet. But we know they’re out there, and when they do, they’re going to wonder how they got so lucky. 💛

Here’s the update so many of you have been waiting for! Walter is doing great in therapy!
Walter is receiving laser therapy, hydrotherapy, and doing at-home exercises, and with the help of his incredibly patient foster mama, he’s gaining strength in his leg every day. As a reminder, this sweet guy came to us with a fractured pelvis, and watching his progress has been truly inspiring.

People often ask how the donations we receive, and welp, this is how. Your support allows us to save dogs like Walter, provide the medical care they desperately need, and give them a chance they otherwise may not have had. Without rescue, dogs with injuries like his are often overlooked or euthanized.

Even though Aioli didn’t spend Christmas with a forever family, his foster family made sure he felt incredibly loved and special. 💛

Aioli is a gentle soul who enjoys playtime but is also perfectly happy entertaining himself in his crate. He’s got a great balance of fun and independence, and he’d make an excellent hiking buddy too.

Dear Santa,
My name is Aioli. I was born in July, and I am the goodest boy—at least that’s what my foster mom tells me. I’m really smart, love my snackies and playing with toys, adore my foster hoomans, and am a big fan of my crate. I also love going outside for sniffies and potty time.
I already know sit, down, and touch, and I’m learning more every day. Foster mom says I don’t have “high puppy energy,” whatever that means, but I think it means I’m pretty chill. I’m good with other dogs, including the doggies in my foster home. I just need a little time to feel brave enough to play with them.
See how awesome I am? All I’m asking for this Christmas is a family of my very own… oh, and maybe a name that isn’t a condiment. Do you think you could pull off a Christmas miracle for me? I promise I’d be your bestest friend ever.

🎄 Day 12 of the 12 Dogs of Christmas – Beverly 🎄
We’re ending our 12 Dogs of Christmas with Beverly, because some dogs wait quietly the longest and deserve to be seen the most.

Beverly is a 5-year-old German Shepherd who somehow keeps getting passed by, even though she is pure love wrapped in fur. She’s the kind of dog who thinks she’s a lap dog, lives for time with her people, and lights up when it’s time to play fetch. She doesn’t ask for much — just companionship, consistency, and a place to belong.

Beverly has been waiting far too long, not because she isn’t wonderful, but because adult dogs are often overlooked in favor of puppies. What people don’t see right away is how deeply loyal, affectionate, and steady a dog like Beverly can be.

She would do best as the only dog, where she can soak up all the love she’s been patiently saving. Ending this series with Beverly feels right because sometimes the last dog is the one who needs the spotlight most.

These adorable pups are 9 weeks old Boxer/Lab mix puppies and they’re bringing all the holiday cheer. Sweet, playful, and full of puppy magic, they’re ready to make spirits bright and hearts full.
