“Theo” is a 1-1/2-year-old male German shepherd that has been in our care for almost three weeks. During this time, he has received his initial vaccinations, tested negative for heartworm and tickborne diseases, undergone neutering, and completed a temperament evaluation. He is a nice dog, smart and eager to learn, but will require a structured environment and extensive training to reach his full potential. Theo is very friendly and has exhibited no issues with other dogs, cats, or people. Once his vaccination series is completed, he will be available for placement. There will of necessity be a rehoming fee to offset costs incurred for surgery, medication, supplies, and the professional evaluation. In order to help Theo find the forever home where he can live his best life, we are asking for written letters of application, which may be emailed to [email protected] or hand-delivered. We anticipate significant interest so please provide as much detail in your letter as possible, including prior experience with the German shepherd breed.

Congratulations to our hardworking team member Jolee Wissinger for achieving Top 4 placement in the state of Ohio for her FFA Veterinary Science SAE, and to Firelands FFA for having a dozen such finalists this year!

Firelands FFA has so much to be excited about! We have 12 Top-4-in-Ohio Proficiency Finalists!! Help us celebrate as we share the results over the next several days!

An FFA Proficiency Award recognizes members who have excelled in their Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE). These awards honor students for developing specialized skills and gaining hands-on experience in areas such as animal science, agribusiness, environmental science, and more. There are 47 proficiency areas recognized by National FFA. Members must complete an extensive application. The application is laced with essays, picture evidence, connections to learning standards, student determined growth-measures, and career connections. All top 4’s will interview for final placing in March and will be on stage at state convention. If you see these members, ask them about their work, we are so proud of them!

The clinic will be open 8-6 today and tomorrow for pickup of previously ordered medications and diets while doctors and staff attend Midwest Veterinary Conference. Office hours will resume Monday, February 24. We appreciate your understanding.

January brought us a variety of creatures great and small, from exotic breeds of kittens to a set of Barbados Blackbelly lambs. On the canine front, our patients ran the gamut from toy to giant, with a few practicing their downward-dog yoga poses.

Reminiscing… ❄️🐈‍⬛
It was a cold January day in 2017 when Jason found Smokey frozen to the median strip on SR 2 near Baumhart. He called his sister Laura for advice… and, as they say, the rest is history. Jason missed school that day but saved a life. Smokey’s been with us for 8 years now and is a beloved member of our staff!

Another foster fail tale! Last August we scouted for volunteers to foster two little kittens rejected by their mother after dogs killed their littermates. Steph & Kristina Woods stepped up and did a fantastic job. This is what “Pickles” & “Ruby” look like now! As beautiful as they are lucky!!!

Do you need a Velcro cat in your life? 🐈 This handsome fellow came to us today all the way from Berea for bloodwork and neutering. He was found under some bushes right before Christmas but, sadly, his rescuer isn’t able to keep him permanently. We offered to help find him an awesome “furever” home.
