July was a busy month! We enjoyed a bird’s eye view of Union Pacific’s steam locomotive Big Boy No. 4014 on its return trip west. We made new friends. Sierra added to her repertoire of solutions for matted felines. And we caught the assistant pharmacy tech sleeping on the job.

“Pooky” (black male) & “Bandit” (black-&-white female) are littermates brought in today from LaGrange by Ann, a cat lover of the highest order. They were tested for FeLV/FIV/HW, neutered and spayed, and given their first round of vaccinations. Ann can’t keep them longterm so she is looking for a wonderful forever home for the two of them together. Pooky & Bandit are both very sweet kitties! Call, email, or message us promptly if you’re interested. There is a nominal adoption fee but Ann is generously defraying the majority of the cost of the services performed today.

UPDATE: Kammi has been reunited with his owner! Apparently he covered a lot of territory (from fairly deep in Lorain to the Amherst border) in the 3 hours he was missing. The reunion was joyous (see photo in comments) and Kammi was microchipped while he was here. Thanks to all who shared this post.

WHOSE DOG? Found wandering on Meadowview Lane near Cooper Foster Park and Leavitt Roads (Amherst-Lorain). Collar but no tags, and no microchip. Further details must be provided by the owner - please call us if that’s you. A big thank-you to Rachel for helping him! Sam the Parrot

Meet Mose. He’s been staying with us since mid-June when he was involved in an unfortunate altercation with a child over a bone. He was a beloved family member but cannot return home because of this incident. After sending him out for a temperament evaluation, we have concluded he deserves another chance. Mose is a 5-year-old redbone coonhound but, as the photos indicate, he’s also an accomplished bird dog.

There’s no better time than the 4th of July to remind pet owners of the value of a microchip! Fireworks are frightening for animals, so it’s no surprise that more dogs and cats go missing on this holiday than on any other day of the year. Be sure to keep your furry friends indoors today with music playing to drown out the booms. The kittens featured with our staff are from Famous Maine C**n Cattery, located right here in Vermilion.

Yes, they’re a nuisance… but how fortunate we are to have had such massive mayfly hatches in recent years, indicating that Lake Erie’s water quality and aquatic food web are in good shape.

Titan & Apollo, Great Pyrenees littermates, are available for adoption. They will turn 4 years old on August 1. Both are intact males weighing 115-120 #. Pyrs are gentle giants that love people, especially children. Both get along well with other dogs. Titan likes cats; Apollo tolerates them. They’ll be here at Vermilion Veterinary Clinic tomorrow afternoon (6/17/26) for a meet-and-greet. Please call to schedule a time as we anticipate a lot of interest.
