A new Era! Gemini Dog Training Academy is coming to a temporary close, after having trained dozens of dogs of the past 2 years I decided to take a job offer to be a dog trainer with I can’t wait for this new chapter! I do hope to re-open one day but as for now this account will solely be about me and my dogs!

We did a small training session at CP! We went through security 2x and walked around the carousel, then we relaxed in the shade for about 10 minutes! Since I will be working here for the summer we are doing lots of small training sessions and gradually building them up!

Monti graduated her intermediate class at pet smart! We decided to take these classes to get some extra exposure to crazy dogs and have seen pretty great results! We are currently going through a phase where if she sees one dog come out of no where she will let out one or two barks, pretty easy to redirect her however we are working 1-2x a week on specifically that! I think it’s just her age and a frustration. On the side note she is doing fantastic with her PA skills and we tackled our first “restaurant” at subway where we practiced a solid leave it with food. I’m excited to watch her continue to grow! 15 months old 3/9 more months to go! (Hopefully)

✨BIG NEWS✨I am enrolling in ABC (Animal Behavior College) and will be starting this week! (Fingers crossed) I will be taking their Service Dog Trainer Course. This has been a very big decision for me and I have looked at many different online dog training colleges/courses and ultimately decided to go with ABC. Although I hope to attend the Karen Pryor academy one day as well! Coming this June/July I hope to get my AKC Evaluator Certification and by August my CPDT-KA! With these certifications obtained my business will be taking a more working dog related route rather than pet dog training. This has always been my dream to own a working dog training business! I’m glad I’m finally able to pursue the steps in this direction! With this being said, Please Expect to see an increase in prices around these times. I will also not be advertising service dog training until these certifications are obtained! However I will not turn down any opportunities to help any teams in need/ refer them to a qualified trainer! If you ever have a training question please reach out Via DM and I will help to the best of my ability!

Guess who went to target for the first time! We are officially starting PA training and I am so excited! I’ve been taking things VERY slow with Monti to ensure there is no burnout, something my previous service dog suffered from (my fault as her handler not knowing better). Expect to see a lot more trips from us soon!! And hopefully a CGC certification by 18 Months! I am also going to pick back up some sent training. Another fun thing coming in the next few months is guide work/ mobility training! We will be starting her cues (find, follow, steady,etc.) without using active mobility until we are OFA cleared! You may also see some handles here soon, these are to help get her used to them, a proper mobility harness and handle will be purchased after OFA all clear around 18 months- 2 years. I am very excited for this next chapter!

MYTH: "Don’t take your puppy anywhere until they're fully vaccinated."

FACT: "The primary and most important time for puppy socialization is the first three months of life. For this reason, the American Veterinary Society of Animal Behavior believes that it should be the *standard of care* for puppies to receive such socialization before they are fully vaccinated. Behavioral issues, not infectious diseases, are the number one cause of death for dogs under three years of age." (AVSAB Position Statement on Puppy Socialization)

FACT: If you wait until your puppy is full vaccinated, you've missed their critical socialization period.

Vets, rescues and breeders who are clinging to the outdated belief that dogs should be prevented from socialization until fully vaccinated are not keeping up with the current research, literature and recommendations from behavior professionals.
