Case of the week!

Our first case of the week involves one of our very own employee’s dog Koda. Koda presented for a ruptured a**l gland and possible mass. Upon taking X-rays we found a metal object in his stomach. Metal shows up very bright on radiographs. Dr. Souza suspected some type of coin. He was taken into surgery. Somehow Koda had ingested a penny. He also ingested bits of a plastic toy shovel. Although he didn’t show signs of a foreign body, pennies can cause zinc poisoning, depending on the year the penny was made. He recovered well, and he is back to being his typical sassy self.
