We had so much fun with the Moore Montessori Community School students and the Pet Responsibility Committee! Charlie was there, and she is such a wonderful patient.🐾💕 She helped educate the students about how to responsibly care for pets in our community. Interestingly, Dr. Barney had to field several questions from the students about gastric dilation and volvulus in large breed dogs during this discussion (smart, inquisitive kiddos!)… The last photo is one of Charlie and Dr. Barney at St. John Paul II for another school event. 🐾

- Avoid or minimize table scraps, especially fatty foods.
- Keep trash and desserts out of reach.
- Provide a safe place for pets during busy times.
- Use pet-safe decorations.
- Travel safely with your pet.

Dr. Barney, Bee and Mrs. Daughtry (Bee’s human Mom) talked about organ systems with the 3rd grade class at St. John Paul II Catholic School in Southern Pines today. The students did such a great job listening and interacting, and Bee, a certified therapy dog, was so helpful and tolerant during the entire presentation! She even got to show off her stellar tricks ☺️. Thank you, St. John Paul II, for having us- it was so much fun!🐾🥰

It’s all fun and games until Mom sees you ate half a pan of dark chocolate-loaded brownies.

Don’t worry, she’s doing great after we induced her to vomit up quite a bit of sweet, aromatic chocolate (the treatment area smelled better afterwards)!

As we get into the holidays, please keep your furry family away from the fun, human foods. Chocolate, especially dark chocolate, can cause gastrointestinal upset, seizures, and even death. Have dog treats on hand that your dog is accustomed to so they don’t get an upset stomach. Offer those- sparingly- instead of the people food. ☺️
