An integrative approach to your dog's behavior! With over 24 years of experience in the industry, my passion began with the purest love, being a dog owner.

Having several dogs meant I was in training classes so often, I was approached to become an instructor myself and followed what I immediately knew to be my calling. From the first agility class with my Papillion Max to the wide variety of breeds in my home, I developed an appreciation for the nuance of personalities and physicalities. Along came the opportunity to build my first dog daycare and tr

aining business, hosting seminars with prominent industry professionals. It was a phenomenal learning experience shaping me into the professional I am today. My journey has illustrated the difference between my goals and the needs of my dogs as individuals. I found myself immersed in Agility, Rally, Nosework, Obedience, Rally, Dock Diving, Conformation, and Frisbee/Disc. It also meant developing skills working with reactivity, aggression, fearfulness, rowdy teens, temperament evaluations and dog selection. Dogs bring an unmeasurable joy to my life. Whether it's fostering or volunteering my time evaluating for rescues or training with people and their dogs, I amplify my professional knowledge through a genuine love for dogs and I pride myself on offering an unparalleled experience.

This is what allowing your dog to problem solve looks like versus asking for a sit and wait before coming out of the crate.

Repetitive verbal cues only allow for the dog to comply. In this photo, we are reinforcing the choice we prefer, allowing Ellen to flex her arousal muscle in a productive manner.

Essentially, following directions is not the same as sorting thru a problem. Cueing behaviors can become a management issue.

Test your own dog's knowledge!
For example: If you ask your dog to sit before going outside, stop asking. Then wait to see if he truly understands what you believe he does, by waiting for the behavior. Does he wait for you to tell him, or does he choose to sit because he understands your expectations?

At Canine Defined, we teach your dog street smarts (Life skills) AND book smarts (Obedience skills).

It is a beautiful thing to watch come together.
