Venmo - Coastal K9 German Shepherd Rescue of San Diego is a 501(c)3 non-profit charity dedicated to finding loving homes for abandoned German Shepherds. Your tax-deductible donations go to support these very deserving animals. Coastal is dedicated to providing new beginnings for homeless German Shepherds who have be

en abandoned, neglected, abused, relinquished by their owners or just left at local shelters to await an uncertain future. We are committed to finding loving permanent homes for the Orphaned dogs in our care. Coastal is an all-volunteer, non-profit organization. Our mission is to educate the public about German Shepherds, their lifespan, personality, and activity level, along with overall responsible dog ownership. We also raise awareness of the overpopulation of animals through education, training, spaying, and neutering. We work very hard to match each dog with the adoptive families. All prospective adoptive families must complete an online application followed by a telephone interview and then receive a home visit before a German Shepherd is placed in their forever home.

โ˜€๏ธ Beating the Heat This Summer! ๐Ÿพ

Summer is in full swing, and our Coastal K9 dogs have found plenty of ways to stay cool. Check out some of their favorite summertime moments! ๐Ÿ˜Ž๐Ÿ’ฆ

The heat can be tough, especially here in Southern California. Before heading out, remember that while the air temperature may seem comfortable, pavement and asphalt can become dangerously hot. At just 75ยฐF, asphalt can reach 125ยฐF, hot enough to burn your dog's paw pads.

Here are 5 simple ways to help your dog beat the heat:

๐Ÿ’ง 1. Keep fresh water available
Make sure your dog always has access to cool, clean water.

๐ŸŒณ 2. Seek out the shade
Whether you're walking or relaxing outside, shaded areas can make a big difference.

๐ŸŒ… 3. Walk during cooler hours
Early mornings and evenings are much safer than the middle of the day.

๐Ÿพ 4. Protect those paws
If the pavement is too hot for the back of your hand for 7 seconds, it's too hot for your dog's paws.

๐ŸงŠ 5. Keep them cool with water or indoor enrichment
A kiddie pool, sprinkler, frozen treats, or a puzzle toy can help your dog stay cool while still having fun.

How does your dog like to beat the heat? Share a photo in the comments! ๐Ÿถโ˜€๏ธ

Foxxy - A Loyal Heart, a Playful Spirit, and So Much Love to Give

If you spent just ten minutes with Foxxy, you'd understand why we adore her.

This beautiful, smaller shepherd mix is incredibly affectionate and loves being close to her people. Once you earn her trust, you'll have a loyal best friend who wants nothing more than to be by your side.

One thing we don't talk about enough? Foxxy is an AMAZING playmate.

She's enjoyed playdates with several of our Coastal K9 dogs, and watching her come to life with her canine friends is pure joy. She plays beautifully, has a wonderful time, and would absolutely love a home with a playful dog companion to share adventures with.

Not long after Foxxy came to us, we learned she was hard of hearing. But don't let that fool you. She's incredibly smart, has learned hand signals, is eager to please, and continues to prove every day that hearing has never defined what she's capable of.

Foxxy does best with patient adults who will give her a little time to warm up. Because children can be overwhelming for her, she's looking for an adult-only home where she can feel safe, relaxed, and truly thrive.

Once she knows you're safe, you'll discover a sweet, devoted girl with so much love to give.

She has all the qualities that make an incredible companion: affectionate, intelligent, playful, and deeply loyal.

Now all she needs is someone to see her for the amazing dog she is. โค๏ธ

๐Ÿ‘‰ We welcome Storm - With his striking black and silver coat and outgoing personality, Storm is hard to miss. Yet somehow, he found himself in a shelter waiting for the family who never came.

This handsome black and silver German Shepherd enjoyed participating in play groups with other dogs while at the shelter, showing that he genuinely enjoys canine companionship. Since arriving at Coastal K9, he's continued making friends and has loved spending time playing with several of our dogs here at the ranch.

Storm is a big guy with an even bigger heart. He absolutely loves people and is happiest soaking up attention from his human friends. Whether he's following you around the yard or leaning in for affection, he simply enjoys being close to his people.

When it's time to play, nothing makes Storm happier than tossing around his favorite ball. Just be warned, he's a power chewer, so only the toughest balls survive! And one of his newest discoveries has quickly become another favorite pastime: swimming. Storm recently learned about our pool and now loves splashing and playing in the shallow end, making it the perfect way to cool off and have fun on warm days.

Storm has so much love, loyalty, and joy to give. He's simply waiting for someone to see the incredible dog behind those soulful eyes and give him the forever home he's been hoping for. We can't wait for the day Storm leaves the ranch, ball in his mouth and tail wagging, to begin the next chapter of his life with a family of his own.

If you think you might be interested in Storm, please complete an adoption application on our website to get started.

Some dogs seem to get one heartbreak after another. Ryder is one of them.

When Ryder came to Coastal K9 last year, we soon discovered the scars of his shelter experience. Bite marks on his neck told the story of a dog who had been bullied by other dogs while kenneled there. We helped him heal, watched his confidence return, and celebrated when he found what we hoped would be his forever family.

For a while, it was.

Then life changed for his owner in ways no one could have predicted, and through no fault of Ryder's, he found himself back at the rescue.

He lost his home again.

The remarkable thing about Ryder is that none of those disappointments have changed who he is. He's the kind of dog who greets each day with enthusiasm, ready for a walk, a game of ball, or an adventure with his people. He has a wonderful personality that makes you smile, and once he's had his fun, he settles into one of the easiest companions you could ask for. He'll happily curl up nearby or head to his crate for a well-earned nap. He's crate trained, walks beautifully on leash, has lived respectfully with a tiny 4-pound senior Chihuahua, and has that rare ability to go from playful athlete to calm housemate in a matter of minutes.

More than anything, Ryder is ready to put down roots with a family who will love him for life. He's a loyal friend, a gentle soul, and a genuinely good dog who deserves more than another temporary stop. He deserves a family that will see what we see every day, a dog with so much love left to give.

If you think Ryder might be the missing piece of your family, we'd love to talk with you. Visit Ryder's page on our website to learn more and submit an adoption application.

RESCUED - Rolo is a handsome 10-month-old liver colored German Shepherd whose life got off to a difficult start. As a young puppy, he found himself alone in the shelter. When no one came to claim him, he spent the next five months waiting and wondering if his chance would ever come.

Thankfully, that day finally arrived, and we were able to welcome Rolo into the Coastal K9 family.

Having spent much of his young life behind kennel walls, the world outside the shelter is still new and a little overwhelming for him. Rolo is understandably cautious, but he's already showing us what a resilient and gentle soul he is. Other dogs help him feel safe and give him the confidence to explore, and he's beginning to build trust with his new human friends at the Ranch.

In the short time he's been with us, we've already seen encouraging progress. As Rolo settles in, we'll continue helping him build confidence through positive experiences, patient guidance, and the companionship of other dogs.

We're excited to watch him grow and discover just how wonderful life can be. If you think you might be interested in Rolo, please complete an adoption application on our website to get started.

Some dogs don't just find a home... they quietly find their person.

Hank came to Coastal K9 alongside Jasper, Tia, and Ari after the family was found wandering the streets together. From uncertainty to safety, Hank patiently waited for the right chapter to begin. While he waited, he was loved and cared for at the Ranch until the day his forever family walked into his life.

As it turns out, his future mom met him long before she knew he would become hers.

Hank was the very first dog she walked while training as one of our volunteers. Week after week, she kept choosing Hank, walking him twice a week since February. After losing her beloved red and black German Shepherd last August, volunteering became a way to honor his memory. Somewhere along the way, Hank quietly worked his way into her heart and also into the heart of the whole family.

Today, Hank is settling into his forever home. His mom says she loves his goofy personality and the way he strolls around the property like he owns the place. She says he is settling in great and doing even better than anyone expected. Hank is finally home.

Sometimes healing begins by helping others. Sometimes the dog you're walking is the one who's been walking toward you all along.

Congratulations, Hank! We couldn't be happier for you and your new family. Thank you for giving this special boy the forever home he deserves.

Meet Reno! ๐Ÿ–ค๐Ÿพ

If you're looking for a fun-loving, energetic companion, Reno just might be your guy.

Reno is a young (approximately 1โ€“2-year-old) black and tan German Shepherd who recently joined our Coastal K9 family. He's settling in nicely at the Ranch and has already won us over with his friendly personality, attentive nature, and eagerness to be part of whatever you're doing.

This handsome boy loves his toys and is always ready for a game. He has plenty of youthful energy, enjoys attention from people, and is eager to learn and please.

Reno also passed his dog-to-dog evaluation at the shelter with a dog his size and has continued to show positive interest in other dogs since arriving at the Ranch. As with all of our dogs, we'll carefully match him with compatible playmates based on individual chemistry.

Reno is ready to trade kennel life for a forever family that will appreciate his playful spirit, loyal heart, and zest for life. If you think Reno might be the missing piece of your family, we'd love to introduce you. Please complete an adoption application on our website to get started.

๐Ÿพ Meet Ross! ๐Ÿพ

Handsome Ross is a 2โ€“3-year-old black and tan German Shepherd who recently joined the Coastal K9 family. For reasons we'll never know, Ross found himself in the shelter. Thankfully, his story didn't end there.

Now safe at the Ranch, Ross is beginning to settle into his new life. With each passing day, he's growing more comfortable, and we're starting to see his sweet personality shine through. He loves attention, enjoys being around people, and seems eager to please.

Ross also passed his dog-to-dog evaluation at the shelter with a dog his size and has continued to show positive interest in other dogs since arriving at the Ranch. As always, finding the right canine companion comes down to chemistry, and we'll thoughtfully match him with suitable playmates while he waits for his forever family.

We're still getting to know this handsome boy, so be sure to follow Ross's journey as we continue to update his profile and share more about his personality.

If you think Ross might be the missing piece of your family, we'd love to hear from you. โค๏ธ๐Ÿพ Please complete an adoption application on our website to get started.
