Fine-tuned our security system tonight to include animals. This was our animal alert 30 mins ago. We love the desert, we also know what we’ve gotten ourselves into and could not be more excited and happy to be here. 🌵

Ajax is at LaVerkin City Animal Control! Sadly, his owner passed away and he’s so confused right now. He needs a good and loving home. Call to schedule a meet & greet with this sweet boy 💙

*UPDATE* Ajax is not on a trial adoption and is back at the shelter. Nothing wrong with Ajax...just another dog in the home that doesn't want to share his space. Please stop by and meet this sweet boy.

Meet our newest guest at the LaVerkin Animal Shelter. This is Ajax, a 7 year old Poodle mix that was surrendered to the shelter over the weekend. Ajax's owner died and the nearest next-of-kin is on the East Coast, so the family decided to surrender him to us. Ajax is a wonderful dog and has been a loyal companion to his owner for almost all of his 7 years. Unfortunately, Ajax is having a difficult time making the transition to his temporary home with us. He is very sad and confused to be in new surroundings. We are hoping his story reaches the right family to give him a new forever home where he can feel safe and loved. We're still getting to know Ajax and as time goes by we'll be able to determine the type of household he will thrive in. Please call the shelter throughout the week and ask any questions you may have about this beautiful boy.
Ajax has been neutered and microchipped already, and will be up-to-date on vaccinations this week. His adoption fees are only $50. If you're interested in meeting Ajax, please call the shelter at 435-772-5441 or visit Monday through Saturday between 9 AM and 1:30 PM.

🐾💙 Happy Father’s Day to the Dads of Rescued Animals! 🐾💙

Today we celebrate the incredible men who opened their hearts and homes to animals in need.

Whether you adopted a senior dog, welcomed a shy cat, fostered a homeless pet or simply became the person they trust most, you have made a difference that changed a life forever.

To every rescue dad who provides belly rubs, walks, treats, warm beds, vet visits, patience, protection and unconditional love—thank you. Your compassion gives animals a second chance and shows them what it means to be part of a family.

The dogs wagging their tails and the cats purring in your lap may not be able to say it themselves, but their gratitude is felt every day.

One of the quietest tragedies in the animal world is how often value gets mistaken for love.

A horse is valued because they can be ridden.

A dog is valued because they are obedient.

A cow is valued because she produces.

A person is valued because they perform.

And because value and love often arrive together, we can begin to confuse them.

We start believing that being useful is what makes us worthy of care.

But they are not the same thing.

Value depends on what you do.

Love depends on who you are.

An old horse who can no longer carry a rider has lost usefulness.

They have not lost worth.

A dog who becomes sick has lost abilities.

They have not lost worth.

A human who can no longer work, produce, achieve, or contribute in the ways they once did has not become less deserving of love.

And neither has any other living being.

I think this is one of the hardest lessons for humans to learn.

Because our culture rewards usefulness.

Measures productivity.

Celebrates achievement.

But life itself seems to operate by a different set of rules.

A newborn foal is loved before they accomplish anything.

A mother horse does not ask her baby to prove their value.

The sunrise does not earn its beauty.

The old oak tree does not justify its existence.

The whale crossing an ocean is not trying to become worthy.

It already is.

Perhaps the deepest shift we can make is learning to see living beings not as resources, tools, assets, performers, or investments.

But as fellow travelers.

Each carrying a life that matters to them as much as ours matters to us.

And perhaps real compassion begins the moment we stop asking:

“What is this being worth?”

And start asking:

“What is it like to be them?”

Because a life does not become sacred when it becomes useful.

It was sacred all along.

Today signals the beginning of the AZ monsoon season, which continues through September 30th and is predicted to bring above-average rainfall.

Pet owners should be aware of the following:

⚡️ ⛈️ Lightning anxiety and storm phobias. Consider calming agents or a mild sedative for your pet, if they struggle with storm anxiety.

🌧️ 🌊 Heavy rain and flash flooding in washes during walks.

🌳 🌵 Debris and cactus limbs blown around by high winds. Watch where you step!🚶‍♀️

🦟 Increased mosquito activity after rains.

💨 Strong wind gusts (sometimes 50+ mph) and blowing dust. Eye protection is a must, if you and your pet must be outside during a monsoon.

Many pets escape yards by jumping over fences/walls and digging under gates during storms. They can get disoriented and lose their sense of direction, forgetting how to get home. A registered microchip will increase your chance of being reunited with your pet.

Thank you Lexee Dorman for reaching out to us for spay assistance for this tabby momma! 🐱

14 felines have been trapped from this colony in Glendale, UT. Those 14 cats have been placed in both rescue and homes. There are still two to three more cats to go.

Thank you Lexee for trapping these kitties and a BIG thank you to our donor who made this momma’s spay appointment possible.

This girl’s ear has been tipped and she has been released back to her colony to live the life she knows best, without the burden of any future litters of kittens.
