People see the donation posts. They see the happy adoption photos. They see six amazing adoptions in one week and assume we must be rolling in money.
The truth is, rescue expenses don't stop because some of the dogs found homes.
This week alone, we paid our annual insurance bill: $1,265.
I ordered a box of vaccines: $169.
Thirty-five dogs needed their monthly flea and tick prevention. At $34 per dog, that came to $1,190.
We purchased accessories for Trunk or Treat: $150.
Candy for the kids and community giveaways: $100.
Our website renewal hits this month: $99.
And while I didn't have to buy any this week, just last week I spent $100 on paper towels and puppy pads for one of our fosters. I've also had to buy harnesses because many of the ones we've tried haven't fit Winston, Wheeler, and Watson properly.
That brings just these visible expenses to over $3,000, and that doesn't include vet visits, medications, food, fuel, cleaning supplies, laundry detergent, emergency medical care, licensing, phone bills, or the countless little things that add up every single day.
Please don't misunderstand me. We are incredibly grateful. Six adoptions this week is something worth celebrating, and every donation that comes in helps more than you know.
I just want people to understand that rescue isn't funded by a few adoption fees or a good fundraising day. Behind every adoption photo is a long list of bills that have already been paid so that dog could get to that moment.
Your support keeps the lights on, the website running, the vaccines stocked, the preventatives ordered, and the dogs safe.
Thank you for helping us continue this work, even when most of the expenses happen quietly behind the scenes. β€οΈ
