Happy National Cat Day! 🐈🐾 From sleeping to sweating, here are a few fun facts that you may not know what your cat is capable of!

💤 70 percent of their lives are spent asleep, which works out to around 13 hours a day!

💨 You may have seen your kitty running around the living room, but they can hit speeds of around 30 mph, which is faster than the world’s fastest human sprinter!

🐾 Cats favor one paw over another meaning that they are “laterally biased,” similar to how humans are born right or left-handed

🐱 Cats are capable of expressing a wide variety of sounds, up to 100, each with its own meaning!

💧 Yes, cats do sweat, but only a little through their paws. Not to cool off but to grip and mark their scent for other cats!

Your new friend with many talents is here at OC Animal Care! Adopt one for $50 only this week! ❤️

Are you thinking of adopting a new feline friend for your cat at home? Check out these tips to ensure a successful introduction!

First, set up a separate room for your new cat. This allows them to decompress and adjust to their new environment without direct contact with your cat at home.

Second, allow both cats to separately sniff each other’s scent through bedding or toys.

Third, when both cats are calm with scent swapping, let them see each other through a barrier, like an open door or crate.

Fourth, allow a short, supervised face-to-face meeting in a neutral space. Gradually increase these interactions until both cats before more comfortable.

Lastly, provide multiple litter boxes, feeding stations, and resting areas to reduce competition. Continue to supervise and monitor their body language and behavior.

Owning a second cat can provide companionship, mental stimulation, and reduce loneliness, especially for a cat who enjoys social interaction!

Visit OC Animal Care to adopt your second feline bestie today! All cat and kitten adoptions are $50 this week! Take advantage of this promotion and come on over!

🐾 PET OF THE WEEK 🐾 Cali is a shy and sweet 4-year-old Jindo mix who thrives with slow introductions. Cali’s social skills are continuing to improve, and she’s enjoying life’s little adventures, from zoomies in the yard to long walks. Cali has also shown she is comfortable spending time on her own and enjoys having a little independence. She doesn’t rely heavily on constant attention, making her an ideal candidate for adopters who want a companion that’s affectionate in their own subtle way.

Cali (A1966136) may not be the first to jump into the spotlight, but she has a sweet personality waiting to be discovered. Give this girl a chance and visit her at OC Animal Care today!

🐾 Happy Return-to-Owner Tail Tuesday! 🐾 About two months ago, Nalah was brought in as a stray. She was scanned and a microchip was found! A message was left for the owner that Nalah was at our shelter ready to be picked up.

When the owner heard the message, she thought it was a prank call because she lost Nalah 4 years ago. We even have a Lost Pet report made by the owner 4 years ago! The owner immediately left work and rushed over to the shelter to pick up Nalah.

During the return, the owner had happy tears and was excited to bring her back home and surprise the rest of her family. She shared that she also has a tattoo of Nalah! 🥰 She had come to terms that Nalah had passed away, so Nalah returning felt like she was coming back to life.

This reunion was incredibly heart-warming, and it also brought tears to OCAC staff! We reiterated how important it is to microchip pets and we praised the owner for microchipping Nalah and keeping her contact information up to date.

If you adopted from OC Animal Care, we'd love to feature your "happy tail" story! Email us at [email protected] with your favorite pictures and videos and let us know how your pet is doing.
