This isn’t just another rescue post. This is a crisis. A warning. A plea for change.

🚨 TWO SISTERS. BOTH HALF THEIR NORMAL WEIGHT. BOTH USED FOR BREEDING. BOTH ABANDONED.
This week, Paws_Without_Borders stepped up for Shiba & Tilly, two Anatolian Shepherd sisters pulled from Santa Cruz Animal Care & Control.
Tilly & Shiba — both heavily pregnant - normally 100lb dogs — weighing maybe half of that and collapsing from starvation.
Both had been bred litter after litter, their bodies drained until they were barely clinging to life.
And it gets worse.
➡️ A young, unaltered male from the same property was also at the shelter.
➡️ The owners came to claim HIM.
➡️ They left the two starving, pregnant mothers behind.
The “profitable” one was taken home.
The mothers who had already given everything were thrown away.
And when they reached the owner?
“They’re your problem now.”
This is what backyard breeding looks like.
It is cruelty dressed up as “ownership.”
And it has to stop.

💛 TILLY — DUE ANY DAY AND FIGHTING FOR SIX BABIES
Yesterday, we truly didn’t know if she would make it.
The ER couldn’t take her.
She was weak, fading, starving, and barely able to stand.
At her ultrasound this morning, we learned:
✨ She is carrying six puppies.
✨ All are active and healthy — a miracle considering she is half her proper weight.
✨ She could give birth any moment.
She is simply too far along for a late-term spay.
This will be her very last litter — and we are fighting to stabilize her before the babies arrive.

🖤 SHIBA — IN LABOR RIGHT NOW
And as if this emergency wasn’t big enough…
SHIBA WENT INTO LABOR TODAY.
She has delivered 8 puppies so far — tiny, fragile newborns depending on a mama who is dangerously underweight.
Two mamas.
Both half the size they should be.
At least fourteen newborn puppies between them.
And all of them finally safe… but in critical need of support.
We were not prepared for this, but we will not let them fall.

There NEEDS to be a law passed against backyard breeding.
Full stop. ✋ 🛑
Because THIS is what the system currently allows:
⭐ The male gets reclaimed.
⭐ The mothers — used up, starving, pregnant — are abandoned.
⭐ Shelters & Networkers scramble.
⭐ Rescues bleed resources.
⭐ And animals pay the price with their bodies.
Where is the justice?
Where is the accountability?
Where are the protections?
Today, we fight louder.
Today, we refuse to accept this as “normal.”
And today, YOU become their village.
YOU become their voice.

Protected.

And surrounded by people who will NEVER let them be disposed of again.
They deserved better.
