Michelle underwent a craniectomy on 11/19/25. Neurosurgeons removed a small piece of her skull that had a tumor growing on it. The skull is on its way to be tested further. A medical wire mesh and mold was put over the hole in the skull and has been sealed shut.

It will be a 2-4 week recovery.

As everyone knows, Michelle's paycheck covers the rescue horses expenses, and right now that check is being pulled thin. If you have the ability to donate, thank you. If all you can do is share and send good vibes, that is great as well. Michelle is just trying to make sure her horses have everything they need while she is in recovery.

It is official... I'm going in for a craniectomy on 11/19. While I'm not at all worried about the procedure or the recovery... I am wanting to make sure I have hay stocked up in the barn for that two week recovery (so that my mom or sister don't have to go get it, unload it, etc.).

If you're open to donating a few bales of hay to help me stock up, here is the easiest way to do it:
Paypal: paypal.me/desertmiragerescue
Venmo: -boyer-kelly
Or, reach out and I can give you the contact info for my feed store!

Go to paypal.me/desertmiragerescue and type in the amount. Since it’s PayPal, it's easy and secure. Don’t have a PayPal account? No worries.

Happy New Year from Tucson!

I've had a few people reach out this morning, asking what the rescue could best use for 2025. Right now, the answer is simple... alfalfa, bermuda, and standardbread alfalfa pellets. All of these rescue and sanctuary horses eat, eat, eat and the one thing we always need is feed.

Want to donate some? There are several ways. I have PayPal and Venmo and I'll drop the links to both below.

As I always tell people, we greatly appreciate anything, as it all ads up. But, we also just love sharing photos of our progress.

Buster and Sterling are still a little under the weather. They have vet appointments on Friday for another evaluation and hopefully, some strong medicine to clear up their nasal discharge.

It is $260 just for the vet to come out and do the exams. Antibiotics, unsure which ones they're going to get, but we suspect at least $200.

If anyone would like to pitch in towards these bills, here is our info:

I have zelle to, pm me for info on that.

We look forward to updating everyone on Friday with good news. But hopefully we can get them over this!

Rio, old and with one eye, still has it! He saddled right up this weekend and helped pony Niltsa, the surprise baby from Luna.

Niltsa had a big day and had her feet trimmed. She also got a saddle pad tossed on her. Did both for great.

Last member of the "Fantastic Four"

This is SVRH Lady Ellaina. She's a registered 2 year old chestnut Arabian that was rescued by Stone Valley Rays of Hope, an Arabian Rescue in Michigan. I am convinced the marking on her forehead is a seahorse... which I love.

She's here to get some training once she settles in. She's still shy. But we have plenty of time to determine her personality and determine what she'll excel at. Right now, she loves treats.

Another member of the "Fantastic Four"

Phoebe is a bay Arabian mare. We still need to send off some DNA to see if she's ever been registered. But, we do know she's gorgeous. She's another kill pen save, thanks to the Arabian Rescue group.

She's a little shy and we know she was confiscated in an animal cruelty case. She's got scars in several areas. But, with apple treats she is definitely warming up to us!

No one enjoys my green ball yet. Any day now though. Any day.

Another member of the "Fantastic Four"

This is Buster, a bay Arabian gelding.

Buster also found himself in a Texas kill pen where his age (20-25, old), his height (he's short), and the fact that he was a skinny Arabian were all working against him. Luckily, the Arab rescue group knew he needed help and bailed him out. He went to QT and now he's settled in here, where we plan to take care of him forever.

I did get ahold of his last home, where they said the grandkids rode him a lot. Once the kids were bigger, they said he wasn't a good ranch horse (age, height, whatever) and so they took him to auction. They didn't realize that the low bid from the auction meant he was out right into the kill pen pipeline...

Don't worry, we've got Buster safe and now we're going to focus on feeding him, getting his teeth done, trimming hooves, brushing those knots out. It is all uphill from here. He's super friendly and wants to be a pet here, and that's good for us.

This is one of the "Fantastic Four" additions.

Sterling is a Grey Arabian gelding who found himself in a kill pen in Texas. With the help of the Arabian Rescue group, we were able to get him to a QT in TX, and then he made the journey here.

He's absolutely gorgeous, just a sack of bones. We're going to be putting weight on him. Then, we will see what is next for him. He's super sweet! He's got a forever home here.

Meet "Twister," a gorgeous guy who came to us with some sore feet. We're working on some corrective footwork but once that settles we think he's going to be a great guy. Should be broke to ride and Dani Boyer did sit on him ba****ck. Likely needs a refresher. But we're going to wait a bit for that until we get his feet settled.
