Back in 2019, Molly Goldstein lost her soul dog, Einstein, at the age of 13.5 due to complications from Degenerative Myelopathy, basically canine ALS.
After his passing, Molly had her heart set on another female Corgi. She and her husband narrowed their search down to two puppies at local shelters. Her husband had never experienced raising a puppy before and REAALLLYYYYY wanted one, while Molly, after years in the dog daycare industry, was not too thrilled about the puppy phase.
On Black Friday that year, they headed out to meet a puppy at The Animal League of Green Valley. After driving through snow and sleet, they arrived only to discover the puppy they wanted had just been adopted! They decided to look around the shelter.
That’s when Molly’s husband spotted a sad and very chonky senior Chihuahua mix curled up in a bed in the back corner of the little dog room. At first, she wasn’t what Molly had in mind at all. She wanted another Corgi and had just lost a senior dog, so adopting another senior felt difficult.
But when staff called the little Chihuahua mix over, her sassy diva personality immediately came out. Some of the male chis were giving her trouble, and she barked right back at them with so much bossiness that they instantly backed off.
Then Molly learned her story. She had belonged to a senior woman who had passed away, and the family she was left to didn’t want her and surrendered her to the shelter. She had only been there a week and was already starting to mourn.
That’s when Molly said, “Okay, she’s mine now. We will take her!”
After filling out the paperwork, they took their newest family member to PetSmart for a $400 shopping spree. 💕💕
