Apart from clouds and obstruction by topography, every place on earth gets about the same amount of sunlight: 50% of the time. At the equator, every day is close to 50% daylight and 50% night. At high latitudes, you have short sunlight in the winter, but exactly balanced by long sunlight in the summer. At the poles, you have six months of sunlight and six months of darkness. But it all adds up to the same number of hours.
