The auction/horse slaughter business is just despicable.

Do you know what happens to a mare with a foal at her side when they are sent to auction?

1) They are purchased by a rescue or people with good intentions who will see that foal brought up with love.
2) They are purchased by a kill buyer who will separate them regardless of the age of the foal. The mares are shipped for slaughter leaving the foals behind to be sent auction to auction until they are old enough to also ship to slaughter.

The foals in the video were purchased at auction WITH THEIR MOTHERS last Wednesday. Today they are orphans at this kill lot because their mothers are set to ship to slaughter. In the video you can hear them desperately calling to their mothers, who are not there. It is heartbreaking.

The people who do this for a living must have pushed down all their humanity to the very depths of their souls. To where it is lost forever.

The chance of your horse getting a happy ending is almost zero if you take them to auction. Especially your old, infirm, or lame horse.

I saw these four mare and foal pairs before they were separated and these mares were beautiful. And as you can see, the babies are adorable. It's just so sad that it ended this way for them.

It's too late for the mares, but the foals are available until Wednesday, when they will be run through the Cleburne auction. They are located at the Panhandle Feedlot and Kill Pen Horses if anyone can help them.

Don't let this happen to your loyal horse. Gift them a kind ending amongst familiarity and with the people they know.

HRER supports The Lost Horses Campaign and The SAFE ACT.

**Copied and pasted from The Wild Beauty Foundation.**

BREAKING NEWS. Today, we have a major announcement for America’s horses.

The House Transportation & Infrastructure Committee has officially advanced legislation we have been working on behind the scenes, including language to prohibit the transport of equines destined for slaughter.

If ultimately enacted into law, this would represent one of the most significant federal actions ever taken toward ending the pipeline that sends tens of thousands of American horses across U.S. borders every year.

This is why we created The Lost Horses campaign. This is why we have lobbied tirelessly on Capitol Hill, and worked alongside our partners to shine a national spotlight on this issue through film, advocacy, and grassroots action.

But this moment only exists because YOU helped make it impossible to ignore - through your calls, messages, shares, and collective voices.

For the first time in decades, an undeniable groundswell is building in Congress.

We are deeply grateful to the members of the House Transportation & Infrastructure Committee for taking this extraordinary step forward.

We are also profoundly thankful to the organizations and leaders who have stood with us in this fight, including ASPCA, AWI, 1/ST, Jockey Club, Equus Foundation, and so many others.

But this fight is not over.

The language must now hold as the Surface Transportation bill advances to the House floor, which means we need you to raise your voices louder than ever before.

Please do not wait. This moment is happening right now.

Go to losthorses.org/take-action and send a letter to Congress - then double it up with a call to the Capitol Switchboard at (202) 224-3121 and ask to be connected to your Representative.

You can say:

"Hello, my name is [NAME], and I’m calling from [CITY, STATE] to ask Representative [NAME] to help ensure the provision protecting horses from slaughter remains in the transportation bill as it advances to the House floor, and to support passage of the SAFE Act."

Thank you for being part of this journey.

Now… let’s finish this. For each and everyone one of the Lost Horses.

Some will say this isn't rescue because it didn't end up in adoption or sanctuary. I'd argue that it was rescue in it's purest form. They left loved. And that is more than enough.

Now is the time for us to replenish our coffers so we can help the next horse in need. Please donate if you can and share our posts! Ways to donate below.

We would like to try and help Teacup too. She is from the same lot as Oaklea Vista is at.

When I spoke to the person who helps find these horses homes last night, Teacup was slated for a possible sanctuary pull. But this morning it is evident that she also is in need of an act of mercy. 😔

We are also fundraising for her. Goal is $370 to help Teacup.

Please donate if you can, if you can't please share this post.

Neither of these two ladies deserved this.
If you can't afford to put your horse down, please do NOT take them to auction. Reach out for help and let them pass at home amongst familiarity.

Rescue isn't always about happy endings or the triumphant comebacks. Sometimes it's about mercy and love in it's highest form.

We are helping to provide a last act of mercy for this Standardbred Mare, Oaklea Vista. She is at a lot in New York under the care of a group, Second Chance Livestock. They need a little help raising the funds to provide her with a comfortable passing instead of being run through another auction or shipped to her terrible death in Mexico.

They have been fundraising for her euthanasia but are a little short. We have offered to make up that balance for them and for Oaklea Vista.

The veterinarian is set to come out tomorrow for her and we are starting a fundraiser to help them. The goal is $270. Please donate if you can, every little bit helps. Ways to donate are below. If you can not donate at this time, please share this post. For Oaklea Vista.

05/15/2026

People often think horses need expensive stables, perfect tack, or victories in competitions. But the truth is much simpler.

They need love.

Not sometimes. Not only when you’re in the mood or have free time. But every single day.

That’s why this phrase matters so much: “Kiss your horse daily.”

Because to a horse, your voice is peace.
Your hands are safety.
Your presence is an entire world.

He will never remember how expensive his equipment was. He won’t understand the value of trophies or beautiful photos. But he will always remember the way you treated him.

Horses feel more than people realize. They notice your mood before you even say a word. They know when you’re hurting. They know when you’re angry. And they know when you come to them not just to ride… but to hide from the entire world.

And that’s when they quietly lower their head beside you.

No advice. No questions. No judgment.

They simply stay.

Maybe that’s why people become so deeply attached to horses. Because beside them, you don’t have to pretend to be strong. You don’t have to fake happiness. A horse sees the real you — and still accepts you completely.

One kiss on a warm nose. One touch of soft fur. One quiet evening beside a fence.

For some people, it’s nothing.

For others, it’s the moment that keeps them alive.

So hug your horses. Kiss their noses. Talk to them. Spend time with them.

Because one day you’ll realize that the most valuable memories in life were never about loud places or big victories.

But about quiet moments beside someone who loved you silently.

Happy World Donkey Day!

Just like the Wild Horses, Donkeys/Burros are rounded up and either live their life in holding or are adopted out, hopefully to loving homes....but there are so many that are dumped in kill pens. They are mostly killed and used for their skins overseas.

They make wonderful companions and are great protectors for other livestock. ❤️

FYI: HRER also assists donkeys and mules in need.

05/05/2026

They walk in silence.
No resistance. No understanding of where this narrow path leads.

Step by step. One after another.
Trusting — the way they always have.

A horse is not made for fear in confined spaces.
It is born to run, to feel the wind, to see the horizon.
But here, there is no horizon.
Only walls, metal, and a smell they can sense — even if we pretend it isn’t there.

They don’t know the word “slaughter.”
They don’t know what a “system” is.
They simply move forward, because that’s what they were taught — to follow humans.

And that is what hurts the most.

Because their trust is unconditional.
It doesn’t question. It doesn’t protect itself. It simply exists.
And when that trust is led in the wrong direction — it stops being about animals.
It becomes about us.

This photo is not about politics. Not about laws.
It’s about choice.

Every time we look away — it’s a choice.
Every time we stay silent — it’s a choice.

We like to believe one person can’t change anything.
But every change begins the moment someone decides not to be indifferent anymore.

Look at them again.
They don’t ask for much. They don’t even know they can ask.

But if you can see this —
then you can do more than just walk past.

Because sometimes the difference between life and death
is not strength.
It’s awareness.
It’s a decision.
It’s you.
