🌟 ITOBA Member Spotlight: Michael Klingler 🌟
Michael Klingler’s passion for horses began at a young age, and his competitive spirit naturally drew him to horse racing. After years of following the sport’s biggest events, he discovered an opportunity to get directly involved in the industry through fractional ownership. That experience fueled his ambition, and the following year he purchased his first racehorse as a 100% owner, officially launching Klingler Thoroughbreds.
His involvement quickly expanded beyond racing. Klingler began building a breeding program by acquiring broodmares and producing Indiana-bred and Indiana-sired foals. He also purchased Cherryvale Stables, a 38-stall facility that could support Thoroughbred owners and breeders in Indiana and beyond.
Building this breeding program has been one of the most rewarding aspects of his time in the industry. “The first time a horse that you planned the breeding, raised, and eventually raced crosses the finish line first is a very special moment.”
His decision to invest in Indiana’s Thoroughbred industry was an easy one.
“Indiana offers great racing opportunities with a lengthy annual meet, a great facility with dirt and turf options, along with healthy purses,” Klingler said. “On the breeder side, Indiana Breed Development has one of the best programs in the nation that can be very lucrative to breeders.”
Klingler encourages those interested in getting involved to take the first step.
“I like to explain that it’s not an exclusive club. It may be known as the ‘Sport of Kings,’ but there are opportunities for everyone to become an owner or breeder in Indiana. If you love horses and enjoy the excitement of horse racing, reach out to organizations such as ITOBA to learn more about how you can get involved.”
