Pearl's Place & Sanctuary

Pearl's Place & Sanctuary Pearl’s Place is a Medical Rescue in Temple TX. Www.pearlsplaceusa.com Our one and only goal is to save Dogs lives. Thank you for Helping us Help them.

Pearl was adopted from the Harker Heights Animal Shelter the night before she was to be put down. Pearl lived with us the last three years of her life and in her honor we have taken in other dogs that in some minds were less then desirable and have given them a new lease on life. Most of the dogs we take in at Pearl’s Place are;
Code Red on the last ours of their lives
Dogs with skin issues. Dogs

that have been in the shelter for long periods of time
Senior dogs that aren’t wanted
Dogs with broken bones that need orthopedic surgery
Hospice dogs needing a place to live their last days

In a perfect world we could save them all, but as we all know we don’t live in a perfect world. Please share Pearl’s Place far and wide, the more people that know our story the more dogs we can help. Ways to Donate

Little Miss Hope

This girl is a very smart little girl.

Hope is a 51/2 month old Shepherd mix puppy. She was one of the pups that came in with her sister and a few others.

She is very quick at learning if you have the right treats in your hand. Today, she was more excited about running and rolling in the grass and trying to steal the treat bag.

Hope is spayed, vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed and ready to start an adventure with her new family.

If you are interested in meeting Hope, please reach out to us on messenger. We would love to set up a meet and greet.

Let her forever arrive.

Miss Bea is singing to beat the heat today!! It may be toasty outside, but she is sassy and happy in her air conditioned house!

Cost of Rescue

Lately we’ve heard a lot of people complain about adoption fees and we’ve heard comments that all rescues are out to profit off the animals in their care. We can’t speak for all rescues, but we can speak for ours and all of us at Pearls Place… we aren’t in it to make money, we’re in it to save animals and to help the animals and people in our community.

When you get a dog or puppy from a Walmart parking lot or a backyard breeder it usually isn’t spayed/neutered, hasn’t been dewormed, hasn’t had even its bare minimum vaccinations, etc. This is also true for many shelters in our area. Few shelters are adopting out animals needing no medical care. That’s why they are free or less expensive.

At Pearls Place, and many rescues in the area, we’re breaking even if we’re lucky after all the medical care given to each animal. Many times when we take in an animal it costs more than our adoption fees to care for.

Here’s some basic medical care that every single Pearls Place animal has before leaving our facility.

*Spay/Neuter

*Vaccinations (rabies, bordetella, distemper/parvo/lepto. puppies get however many their age allows)

*Deworming

*Microchip

*HW testing and preventive if old enough (treatment if HW+)

This is if the dog is basically healthy when it gets to Pearls Place. Most of the time more is needed.

A very recent example is Grace O’Malley. She needed an eye removal surgery. Her vet bill was over $550. It’ll cost us another $200+ in spay and vaccinations before she’s ready for adoption. Her adoption fee is $120.

We take in a lot of broken bones (Katie, Ruby, Tinkerbell are a few) which usually cost thousands of dollars. Their adoption fees are the same as the healthier dogs… $350.

We take in a lot of skin conditions (Fiona, Esther are a couple). The products we use to treat skin are extremely expensive but extremely effective. Their adoption fees are $350.

We take in many dogs that need antibiotics, parasite treatment, etc. Their adoption fees are $350.

So whether we spend $3-400 or $3-4000 the adoption fees are $350.

The math isn’t mathing for making a profit. We rely heavily on donations from our amazing supporters. But even with donations and adoption fees it is usually a struggle to break even. We do it for the animals, not the money.

This doesn’t even account for all of our sanctuary dogs. The dogs that cost regularly in food, housing, medical care, etc. But these dogs have the right to live their last years of life happily. So we do it anyway.

These animals are worth more than a price tag. They deserve all the care we can give them. And we’ll continue to love the animals enough to not let the words of people who are ignorant to the costs of animal rescue impact how we show up for those animals.

Despite the words of someone who came in to return a dog today (“You’re just taking mutts off the streets and selling them for profit”) we are still going to keep showing up for the animals that need us to.

If you ever have any questions about our costs, adoption fees, etc. just ask us. We have no problem answering.

Why has no one come to meet this boy???

He is honestly just the sweetest. Hunter is about 3 years old and is so ready for a new home. He weighs about 15 pounds and is neutered, microchipped, up to date on all of his vaccinations and started on heartworm preventative. He likes other dogs (big & small), people (big & small) and wants to be held and adored. Hunter would love a home where he can be a part of the family. He'd love to play in the yard or snuggle up on the couch to watch a movie with you!

If you're interested in meeting Hunter please send us a message!

What does everyone do at 1:17 am?

Not a usual time for me to be awake but for some reason I am tonight.

Dogs are quiet, Tony is asleep but my brain won’t shut off.

The part I don’t like the most is I know around 5 the house dogs will be expecting to go out. They go out at this time because everyone starts showing up at 6:30 for out day to begin.

Night night everyone, morning is going to come early.
