With summer temperatures on the rise, it’s the perfect time to review a few important warm-weather safety tips for your pet. At McClintock Animal Care Center, we want to help you and your furry family members enjoy a healthy, worry-free season.

1. Keep Pets Hydrated
Always provide access to fresh, clean water. If you're heading out with your pet, bring a portable bowl and offer water frequently—especially after activity.

2. Avoid Peak Heat Hours
Walk your dog during the cooler parts of the day—early morning or evening. Check pavement with the back of your hand; if it’s too hot to touch for five seconds, it’s too hot for paws.

3. Never Leave Pets in Parked Cars
Even with windows cracked, the temperature inside a vehicle can become dangerously high in just a few minutes. It’s best to leave pets at home if they can’t come with you.

4. Travel Smart
Planning a trip? Secure your pet safely in the vehicle with a crate or a seatbelt harness. Bring along water, food, medications, and comfort items like toys or blankets.

5. Know the Signs of Heatstroke
Watch for heavy panting, drooling, weakness, vomiting, or unresponsiveness. These are medical emergencies. If you suspect heatstroke, call us or seek veterinary help immediately.
