🐾 Vet Tech Weekly Wisdom

This week’s tip comes from Nellie: “I was in the field with a previous employer and DVM to remove a tooth from a pot-bellied pig with a facial abscess. It turned out the tooth was actually a tusk that had ruptured through the side of this poor pig’s face. My boss wasn’t sure how to proceed, so I asked if I could elevate the gums around the tooth from inside the mouth. She said, ‘Be careful, but yes.’ About 30 seconds later, I was holding a 6–8-inch tusk! She was then able to repair the wound on the pig’s face, and the pig recovered amazingly well and is still doing great to this day. She trusted me and my skill level and allowed me to use my skills to benefit the patient.”
