💥DC DOGOS PUPDATE💥

✨ Forrest’s Happily Ever After ✨

When Forrest first came to DC Dogos Rescue, he was malnourished, neglected, and struggling with some serious health issues. He was knuckling and had a torn ACL at a very young age. Thanks to amazing foster care, his knuckling was corrected, and his adoptive family made sure he got the ACL repair he needed. 💟

❓Today? Forrest is living his best life!
🐾 He spends his days in Georgia with his fur-ever family running the fence line, patrolling the porch, wrestling with his little sister, and napping on the couch like a king.
While Forrest does have arthritis, his family has him on a great pain management plan so he can keep enjoying every adventure. And the best part? He is so, so loved. ❤️

Thank you to everyone who makes happy endings like Forrest’s possible—fosters, adopters, and donors. You truly change lives!

Hi there! Willow here taking over for the amazing volunteers of DC Dogos Rescue 🛟

This is another edition of Wednesday Wisdom with Willow 🐾

Today I bark all about eye shine. And no I’m not barking about a hangover, bar fight, and shiner. I’m barking all about why we dogs sometimes have a glowing effect in our eyes at night.

Sometimes, we can be confused for a werewolf but I assure you hoomans that is not the case.

Our glowing eyes are caused by a reflective layer called tapetum lucidum. Hoomans do not have this reflective layer in their eyes. So if you do happen to meet a hooman with glowing eyes, THEY may in fact be a werewolf.

The tapetum lucidum is made from tiny reflective crystals that act like a mirror. 🪞 These crystals reflect light back through the retina 👁️ which also allows the retina to capture more light and improves night vision.

This is what allows us dogs to be nocturnal hunters.

Melanin also is responsible for how bright our eyes glow. More melanin on our skin means stronger glow. Genetics & breed can also influence our eye shine.

🐾Sting🐾

Dogo Dee stopped by to check in on our sweet Stingy at his foster home yesterday, and we’re thrilled to report, he’s absolutely thriving. As the only pup in the house, Sting is soaking up all the love and attention from his wonderful foster dad.

He’s a mellow soul who clearly feels right at home, calm, content, and the perfect house guest. His days are a lovely mix of peaceful walks through a beautiful scenic neighborhood, curious sniffing adventures, belly rubs (you know Sting love his belly rubs) from kind neighbors, cozy afternoon naps… and then he does it all over again.

Sting has truly settled into his routine and is enjoying every moment of his new home life. We couldn’t be happier for him.

A heartfelt thank you to his foster dad, John Heuser for giving our boy the care, love, and stability he so deserves. 💙
