This week's Happy Tail is a double feature from Ava Grace and Addie! 🐾

Three years ago, Ava Grace (formerly known as Eva) found her new family, and just two months ago, the family grew when Addie (formerly known as Mango) joined the pack. What started as bringing home a new furry friend turned into something even more beautiful: an instant best friendship between two Tacoma Humane alumni!

Ava Grace and Addie absolutely adore each other and have become the very best of friends, partners in crime included! They love getting into trouble together and keeping their family laughing. The only thing they don't see eye to eye on is the joy of bubbles... Addie is obsessed with them, and Ava Grace, not so much. 😂

Addie's adopters recently got back her DNA results that revealed she's a Golden Retriever and German Shorthaired Pointer mix!

"Their lives outside the shelter have been a huge blossom of love and laughter and joy. We love our girls from your shelter."

Thank you to Ava Grace and Addie's family for giving not one, but two shelter pups the loving home they deserved. Watching these two become best friends is exactly the kind of happy ending we live for.

Let us introduce you to Gordo!

Gordo is around 2-years-old and quite the special pup. Gordo is visually impaired, but doesn't let that stop him from adventure. He is excellent at navigating the world using his impeccable nose and ears as his guide. He's looking for a family that can have patience for the way he has to go about the world and to make sure his path is clear.

Gordo loves to cuddle and is known to crawl right into the laps of new friends. If Gordo sounds like your kind of dog, stop by the shelter to meet him💚🐶

THANK YOU!! We are so grateful for the outpouring of support after we put a call out for supplies for our fosters during this busy kitten season!

This will go directly to helping feed, comfort, transport, and monitor the growth of hundreds of tiny kittens 😻 We are so honored to have a community that makes the work we do possible!

Side note: We know there have been some issues with stock of Miracle Ni***es that has caused issues with our wishlist. It appears that there is a supply issue right now and our team is working to find a substitute that will work while this shortage continues. We apologize for the confusion and the wishlist difficulties!

The votes have been tallied! 🗳️ 🎉 🐾

Our new Pet Mayor for a Day for City of Tacoma Government is Sambuca the greyhound! We also have a Pet Deputy Mayor for a Day, Kai!

As Pet Mayor, Sambuca promises that during his time in office, no squirrel will go unnoticed. Kai vows to be the best ambassa-dog ever for his term as Pet Deputy Mayor. We have total faith in these two!

We want to congratulate Sambuca and Kai on their win, along with all of our entrants who helped raise nearly $12,000 for our spay/neuter programs to help create a healthier pet population in Pierce County!

Thank you to the City of Tacoma Government for partnering to make this contest possible 🤎

The next few days are supposed to be HOT! 🌡️

We wanted to share a few tips to help keep your pets safe in the heat:
☀️ Don’t leave your pet in a hot car, even with the windows down. The temperature in the car can be significantly warmer than the outside temperature – even after just a few minutes.
☀️ Check the pavement with the back of your hand. If it’s too hot for your hand, it’s too hot for paws!
☀️ Keep your pets hydrated! Make sure they have constant access to water and bring a water bottle with a travel bowl with you when you leave the house.
☀️ Monitor your pets for possible signs of overheating. Things like heavy panting, huffing, or mobility issues can be signs that you need to get your pet somewhere cool ASAP!
☀️ Exercise your pets in the early morning hours when it is cooler outside. Try to reduce activities during midday when it is the hottest.

Stay safe and stay hydrated! 🐾😎
