Have you ever heard the phrase "fighting a nap"? We use it a lot with human toddlers who are maybe getting a little bit overtired.

Did you know that dogs do the same thing? Every single dog needs to learn the skill of resting! It does not necessarily come easy to every dog, that's when we get dogs who "fight the nap".

If your dog is generally restless and wired up, we are much more likely to recommend teaching that dog to rest rather than giving that dog more physical exercise.

What’s going on here? Did I send my dog to school just to sleep?!
Our goal is to help train your dog to be a well-behaved member of your household. We are not in the business of forcing dogs to become overtired just so they can’t stay awake at home. When the dogs clearly need rest, even when loose with a dog they hadn’t met before today, we let them rest! It’s not healthy for any of us to ignore our bodies; dogs included! Plus: resting around another dog is one of the best skills a dog can develop! 😍😍😍

What does it mean for a dog to “opt out” of training?
Nene demonstrates perfectly! He wants a break to chew without being given expectations, so he goes to a place that we never take things away. Emotional regulation is probably the most important skill a dog can have, so we make sure to honor it when they say they need a break!

Hello to our lovely friends and clients!
As some of you know, our studio has been undergoing renovations the past couple of months. This has left us without a home base for dayschool. During this time, we've been holding normal dayschool everywhere but home!
This experience has taught us 2 big things:
1. Our doggy clients have become extremely resilient to weirdness! Our students hardly missed a beat as we asked them to train in all sorts of brand new environments. It just goes to show that when you take the time to build a solid foundation of trust with your dog, they can really rise to the occasion in lots of situations!

2. Our human clients are literally the best in the world. During our renovations, we have had clients open their homes to us to hold dayschool. The amount of generosity, faith, and trust that our clients have shown us is truly humbling and our gratitude cannot be overstated.

Our new floors are in and we should be moving back into our building very soon. As this chapter comes to a close and we get back to "business as usual", we would like to say THANK YOU from the bottom of our hearts to the entire Notre Dog Academy community.
