Pixie š
Many of you have seen me post about Pixie beforeā¦ and it breaks our hearts to be making another post like this.
Pixie is a female Shar Pei that was returned to us due to her previous family facing serious health issues that prevented them from giving her the care she needs and deserves. She has now been back with us for going on seven weeks.
We have continued to give Pixie time, space, and patience but unfortunately, she has not made much progress. She is still very shut down, remains aggressive when approached, and cannot be handled or touched at this time. We are able to feed her and care for her safely.
The positivesā¦.because she does have them. Pixie does GREAT with our other dogs and has shown no aggression toward them at all. She is house trained, crate trained, and she is already spayed. She also has a soft spot for cheeseā¦ and in one quiet moment, after being given cheese she gave a quick little kiss on the hand. That moment reminded us that she is trying.
We have also had to keep Cheyenne away from her, which has been incredibly difficult. Cheyenne sees all of our dogs the same, she just wants to love them, cuddle them, and give them treats too. Itās been hard for her to understand why Pixie is different, and it genuinely upsets her knowing Pixie has to be handled differently. But right now, it simply isnāt safe for Cheyenne to be around her.
Because of this, Pixie will require a VERY specific home: No children of any age, Experienced Shar Pei owner only, Someone who truly understands this breed, A home willing to give her space, patience, and time with zero expectations.
Pixie is not a quick turnaround dog. She needs someone who will allow her to exist, decompress, and open up on her own terms.
We love this girl deeply. And because we love her, we are going to be completely transparent. If Pixie ends up in the wrong hands or is misunderstood, she has a very high chance of being euthanized. That is something we will NOT allow to happen.
We also want to make this very clearā¦
We will NOT be surrendering Pixie to a rescue. Rescues already have more than enough on their plates, and Pixie does not need to be passed around. Her placement must be permanent.
Due to state requirements, her rabies vaccine must remain current, and it expires at the end of September. Because we are unable to safely handle her for veterinary care, we are urgently searching for the right, permanent home for her.
She deserves someone who understands her, respects her boundaries, and is willing to love her for exactly who she is even if that means from a distance at first.
