Our team have enjoyed special treats each day - Monday bagels and coffee, Tuesday an ice cream bar, Wednesday Chick-Fill-A with cupcakes, Thursday smoothies from Tropical Smoothie Cafe, what will today bring? We love our team and celebrate each and everyone of them whether a certified tech or not this week. If you see one of them please thank them for their work and dedication to helping your furkids πŸ’œπŸΎπŸ₯°

With the weather climbing back up to the high 90's and the humidity adding onto the heat index in our area, we just wanted to take a moment to talk about a silent killer: Heat Stroke

🚨 URGENT: PROTECT YOUR PUP FROM HEATSTROKE! 🚨

Our furry friends can't sweat like we do, making them highly susceptible to overheating.

KNOW THE SIGNS – ACT FAST!
Even a few minutes too long in the sun or a hot car can be deadly. Look out for these symptoms:

excessive panting

difficulty breathing

drooling

staggering or disorientation

vomiting

diarrhea

bright red or pale gums

seizures

collapse

What to do if you suspect heatstroke:

MOVE IMMEDIATELY: Get your dog into a cool, shaded area.

COOL DOWN SLOWLY: Apply cool (NOT ice cold) water to their belly, armpits, and groin. You can also use wet towels. Offer small amounts of cool water to drink.

NEVER use ice water: This can cause their blood vessels to constrict and actually hinder cooling.

SEEK VETERINARY CARE: Even if they seem to recover, internal damage can occur. Get to the vet ASAP!

PREVENTION IS KEY!

NEVER leave your dog in a parked car, even for a minute, even with windows cracked. The temperature inside can rise rapidly!

Limit exercise during hot hours. Walk your dog early in the morning or late in the evening.

Provide plenty of fresh, cool water at all times.

Ensure access to shade when outdoors.

Pavement gets HOT! If you can't hold your hand on the pavement for 5 seconds, it's too hot for their paws.

Consider cooling vests or mats for breeds prone to overheating (brachycephalic breeds like bulldogs, pugs, and boxers are especially vulnerable).

Let's keep our beloved companions safe and happy during this heatwave! Share this post to spread awareness. ❀️🐾
