We would like to give a very warm welcome to Dr. Summer Fohl, who joined the SVH team in June. She is originally from central Connecticut and has earned her Bachelor of Science in Animal Science from the University of Rhode Island before pursuing her veterinary degree at St. Matthew's University School of Veterinary Medicine in the Cayman Islands. She completed her clinical training at the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine.
Now living in Pawcatuck, Dr. Fohl is happy to be back on the East Coast caring for pets and the families who love them. Outside of the hospital, she enjoys spending time with her two island rescue dogs, affectionately known as her "coconut retrievers," as well as relaxing at the beach, boating, painting, and spending time with friends and family.

Just a reminder that our office will be closed this coming weekend in observance of Independence Day. We will be closed on Friday July 3rd until Monday, July 6. Check your pet's medications and get them refilled by Thursday July 2nd. Our office will close at 5:30 pm on Thursday and reopen at 8 am on Monday. If you feel your pet will need medications for anxiety due to fireworks or thunderstorms please call us as soon as possible.

Dear Valued Clients,

We are coming into a major heatwave over the next week and we want to ensure your pets are safe from heat related issues.

Heat stroke is a life-threatening medical emergency. Watch for heavy, relentless panting, thick sticky drool, bright red or pale gums, and unsteadiness. As the condition worsens, dogs may suffer from vomiting, diarrhea, seizures, or collapse.

Things you can do to make sure your pets are safe during a heat wave:

~ Make sure to leave down plenty of fresh, cold water at all times.

~ If your pet cannot be in an air conditioned space, please make sure they have access to shaded areas and are not out in the direct sun.

~ Do not walk dogs on pavement, roadways or cement during the middle of the day, it will burn their pads.

If you suspect your dog has heatstroke, please contact us (if during the day) or an emergency facility IMMEDIATELY. Brachycephalic dogs and cats are extremely susceptible to heat-related issues especially in the summer months and should ALWAYS be kept in air-conditioned houses or facilities.
