Mantrailing Workshop October 18th!

Mantrailing is a fun, unique sport that teaches dogs to find people using an individual's distinct scent!

How it works:

Your dog is given a scent article (such as a glove or cloth)
They identify and lock onto that individual scent

You follow behind on a long line, allowing your dog to lead the process

Why this is beneficial:
We spend a lot of time asking our dogs to follow our lead—this is an opportunity to do the opposite. Mantrailing allows your dog to tap into their natural scenting abilities while building confidence and independence. It’s suitable for all dogs—any age, temperament, or experience level (including nervous or reactive dogs). Jen will tailor the experience to meet each dog’s individual needs.

Workshop structure:

First 2 hours: Classroom session with Jen (dogs will remain safely crated indoors or in your vehicle, weather permitting)
Second 2 hours: Hands-on trailing work outside where each dog will have multiple opportunities to run

A very sweet group of dogs and people graduated from Intermediate Class this week. These dogs have grown by leaps and bounds over the last 6 weeks + from all the classes they have attended.

The best part is seeing the dogs and humans grow together. This is one of the last classes at Lucky Dog in Pawcatuck! Off to new adventures in bigger spaces! Can't wait to see everyone in Mystic!

If you need a few more reasons to reconsider using the walking equipment shown below, read this summary explaining why we recommend harnesses instead of certain collars and other aversive walking tools.

As mentioned, your leash and walking equipment should always be used alongside reward-based leash-walking training. We understand that loose-leash walking can be challenging, especially with dogs who tend to pull. There are a variety of management techniques we can recommend to help make walks easier and safer while you continue working on your training skills.

If this sounds like your dog, reach out to us! We’d be happy to help you find the right harness, walking equipment, and training techniques for your individual dog.

And stay tuned for a loose-leash walking class!!

Your dog is always learning, even when you're not training.

The brain is wired to connect what happens with how it feels, so every calm moment you notice and reward is quietly building the behaviour you want to see more of. Shaping the good stuff on purpose is often far more powerful than correcting everything else.
