Some of our Monday scholars make “stay” seem effortless… but there’s a lot of training behind it! 🐾

Before we could ask our scholars to pose together in public, we built the skill step by step, starting with stay indoors, then practicing on leash, adding distractions, and finally taking it out into the real world.

A group stay is built by teaching each dog that staying put is rewarding, even when distractions are present. Well done, scholars!

Sometimes it looks like sunshine, new adventures, good friends, and a whole lot of tail wags.☀️

But underneath all that fun?

They’re learning to listen, focus, make good choices, and be confident dogs in the real world.🐶

Urban CGC 🏙️🐾

The Urban CGC is about so much more than learning basic commands, it challenges dogs and their handlers to demonstrate good manners, confidence, and control in real-world public environments. 🐕‍🦺✨

Throughout this class, teams will work on skills including:

🐾 Loose-leash walking through busy public areas
👥 Remaining calm and controlled around crowds and strangers
🐕 Passing other dogs appropriately
🚪 Entering and exiting buildings with good manners
🛗 Navigating elevators, stairs, doorways, and different surfaces
🚦 Staying controlled around traffic and everyday distractions
🪑 Settling calmly while their handler is seated
🤝 Appropriate greetings and interactions with people
🎯 Maintaining focus and engagement despite distractions
🏙️ Practicing obedience in real-world urban environments

This crew showed exactly what Day School was all about. New sights, new smells, other people in the park, and plenty of distractions, and every dog practiced staying calm, patient, and engaged. Group photos like this don’t happen by chance. They come from building confidence, teaching clear expectations, and giving dogs the skills to succeed in the real world.
