Did ya know? The iconic dachshund balloon 🌭has been part of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade for decades, long before she ever had a name!
From the 1950s through today, this long dog has made multiple parade appearances. For years, she was simply known as “the dachshund balloon.” It wasn’t until 2003 that she finally got her name: Frieda, in honor of a real dachshund owned by a Macy’s studio employee.
And this year… Frieda makes her big return to the Thanksgiving Day Parade as part of an initiative celebrating Adopt a Senior Dog Month! 💛
Whether you tune in for the floats, the music, the nostalgia, or the giant flying wiener dog… we hope your Thanksgiving brings something to smile about (and maybe a little barking at the TV 😉).
Happy Thanksgiving from DREAM! 🧡🐾 Dreamrescue.org
