We've received many comments and a couple of inquiries so far.

We really need to move Ron out of the shelter.

We are looking for a foster/hospice home within 30–45 minutes of Springfield so that we can easily provide veterinary care with our vets when needed and closely monitor Ron's health.

Ron just needs a calm home environment

Thank you.

Meet the fosters ☺️

🇺🇸 Meet Captain! 🇺🇸

Captain is a true patriot with a heart of gold. He believes in all the important things in life: quality family time, hot dogs, apple pie, swimming pools, and plenty of love.

One thing you'll quickly learn about Captain is that he absolutely loves water. If there's a pool, or a tub nearby, he's ready to jump right in!

Captain also has two very special support stuffies.

While most toys don't stand a chance against him, these two beloved companions are off-limits. In fact, whenever Captain goes somewhere, one of his trusted stuffies has to come along.

Captain currently lives with other dogs and does well with them. His preference? Calm, well-mannered canine friends. He's long past the age of dealing with energetic young whipper-snappers!

Like many senior dogs, Captain's story could have ended very differently. He was given a second chance because a foster stepped up and opened their home to him when he needed it most.

The good news? Captain is both potty trained and crate trained, making him an easy companion to welcome into your home.

Captain is 8 years old

Senior dogs have so much love left to give, and Captain is no exception. Let's show the senior dogs of Sangamon County some love and help them find the safe, loving homes they deserve.

Could Captain be the missing piece of your family?

He is available at the Sangamon County Animal Control and Adoption Center at 2100 Shale St., Springfield, IL. Monday thru Friday 10:30 AM to 4:15 pm and Saturday 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM. 217-535-3065.

Meet the fosters! 😊

A Resilient Little Dog

Pearl has survived some very difficult neglect in her past, but those days are behind her now.

She's ready to find a loving home where she can finally enjoy the life she deserves.

Her foster parents describe her as a sweet, well-behaved girl who loves spending time with her people.

Pearl loved being outdoors

One of her favorite activities is walking the property with her foster dad and taking in all the sights and smells.

Pearl seems happiest living a quiet, relaxed life alongside her humans.

While Pearl has lived with other dogs in the past, she can be selective about her canine companions. Because of this, a meet-and-greet with any resident dogs would be essential to ensure a good match.

6 years old
Female
Pitty mix
Potty trained
Crate trained

If you're looking for a loyal companion who has overcome so much and still has plenty of love to give, Pearl may be the perfect addition to your family.

Pearl is available for adoption through Sangamon County Animal Control and Adoption Center at 2100 Shale St., Springfield, IL. Monday thru Friday 10:30 AM to 4:15 pm and Saturday 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM. 217-535-3065.

Meet the fosters! ☺️

Well, it looks like somebody gave Dobby a sock... and now he's a FREE elf! 🧦✨

Except this little guy's name is Tobin, and he's free from the shelter thanks to his amazing foster mom. Now he's ready to find his forever family!

Tobin
1 year old

From his foster mom-
Tobin is the sweetest little guy. He came to us as part of a cruelty confiscation case.

He arrived scared, thin, and very confused about the world around him.

With lots of love, patience, and TLC, he has come a long way!

Every day, his personality shines a little brighter, and he's learning life skills

Tobin is looking for a family that will continue helping him build confidence by providing patience, structure, and guidance.

He's essentially getting a fresh start at life and is working on potty training and learning how to just be a dog.

He is ready to leave his past behind and start his next chapter with a family of his very own.

He is available for foster to adopt until he gets fixed at the Sangamon County Animal Control and Adoption Center at 2100 Shale St., Springfield, IL. Monday thru Friday 10:30 AM to 4:15 pm and Saturday 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM. 217-535-3065.

Meet Bruno.

Bruno came to the shelter with his canine brother, Mars, and he's having a very difficult time with shelter life.

Bruno is housed in one of the last kennels in the run, with a fan positioned in front of his door.

Please don't miss the point of this post—the kennel location isn't unusual. Every available space in the shelter is being used because there are so many dogs in need.

The point is that dogs like Bruno are often overlooked.

Many visitors never make it all the way down the run, and some dogs simply aren't seen.

Bruno is one of those dogs. We're hoping that by sharing more photos and telling his story, someone might walk in and say, "I'd like to meet Bruno—the one who came in with Mars." (We currently have two dogs named Bruno.)

If you're interested in meeting him, ask the front desk staff if someone can bring him outside for a visit. Like many shelter dogs, Bruno's stress levels are much lower once he's away from the noise and activity inside the building.

He may also need a chance to relieve himself before greeting visitors.

Please only consider adopting or fostering if you're truly ready to make that commitment.

We don't share posts like this simply to pull at heartstrings. We share them to bring awareness to the dogs who are struggling the most in the shelter environment and who need someone to give them a chance.

Bruno is waiting.

Look all you want, but you won't find a sweeter girl in this town!

Blanca is a friendly girl with an incredibly sweet temperament.

She loves people, enjoys socializing, and seems relaxed and neutral around other dogs.

She doesn't make a fuss about much and is generally easygoing, though she does get the zoomies when the spirit moves her!

You really can't go wrong with this wonderful girl. If you don't come out to meet her, you'll never know what you're
missing.

Blanca is approximately two years old and is ready to find a loving home of her own.

A Professional Trainer’s Honest Take on Cheyenne

Cheyenne has a wonderful temperament and handles well, two important qualities to look for when considering a dog to adopt.

The trainer was also honest about the fact that Cheyenne is completely untrained. That may mean she jumps up for attention, pulls on the leash, or needs help developing impulse control. The good news is that these are common behaviors, and all dogs benefit from guidance, structure, and training.

To help set both our dogs and their adopters up for success, we provide a free training assessment with this professional training facility.

If you love your dogs big, sweet, and beautiful, Cheyenne deserves a spot on your must-meet list.

Come meet this lovely girl and see if she’s the perfect match for your family.
