Today is Feline Leukemia Day. Let’s learn more about this serious and often misunderstood disease affecting our beloved cats. FeLV is a contagious virus that weakens a cat's immune system, making them more susceptible to infections and other illnesses.
What You Need to Know:
Transmission: FeLV spreads through close contact between cats, including grooming, sharing food or water bowls, and bite wounds.
Symptoms: Common signs include lethargy, weight loss, fever, swollen lymph nodes, and recurring infections. Some cats may not show symptoms immediately but can still spread the virus.
Prevention:
Vaccination: Ensure your cat is vaccinated against FeLV, especially if they go outdoors or live in multi-cat households.
Testing: Regularly test your cat for FeLV, particularly if they are exposed to other cats.
Together, we can make a difference in the lives of our feline companions. Let’s work towards a future where every cat can live a happy, healthy life free from Feline Leukemia.
