Assistance to cover vet bills has come in this week – mostly around parvo!

We have to make financial decisions that fit within our budget, and it’s always hard when we have to say no or limit what we can do.

Parvo itself is not always survivable – but there are steps you can take to help prevent it.

✅ Make sure the mom is vaccinated!

✅ Keep puppies away from grassy or unclean areas until they’re fully vaccinated.

✅ Limit how much they’re handled, and always wash hands before and after contact.

✅ Keep them in a safe, low-traffic area where shoes and clothing from outside aren’t brought in.

✅ Clean regularly with strong disinfectants — Rescue and other top-grade cleaners are great options and can be found on Amazon.

💉 Puppies should receive their first parvo/distemper vaccine at 6 weeks, their second at 9 weeks, and their third at 12 weeks to be fully protected.

Gilbert was the last of the 4 kittens we have been awaiting a foster for.

Oddly enough, Mama cat also was part of our TNR efforts at the end of April - so after being spayed and released she went back to her babies and continued their care ((we did not know she was a nursing cat or about the kittens at this time)).

When they were able to walk and follow mama, they all wound up at a ladies front porch outside of the trailer park where mama came from. Since then we were asked to take them in, but with the lack of open fosters for kittens we had to wait. The lady was able to feed them and get them slightly used to people, but with her health she needed our help!

We were finally able to find a foster and get the kittens - Gilbert being the hardest to catch but the most in need, which we found out today.

Under his neck he had a wounde and for some time a botfly has nestled in, and burrowed itself. Today we were able to get Gilbert to the vet office to clean it out and start antibiotics 💜

I also paid our bill from the last couple weeks of other vaccinations, medications etc for our rescues and it was a hefty $630!
