Important message from our friends at North Country Wild Care!

🌿Wildlife Alert: Spring is in the Air! 🌿

With the warmer weather, wildlife are becoming more active—especially at night! Please remember to drive carefully and always watch for animals crossing the roads.

This time of year, many animals in Upstate New York are entering mating season, including:
🦊 Foxes
🐾 Coyotes
🐿️ Squirrels
🦝 Raccoons
🦨 Skunks

As wildlife searches for mates and safe places to nest, be sure to secure any open spaces around your home, like chimneys, sheds, and porches, to prevent unexpected visitors. If an animal has already moved in, make their stay as unwelcoming as possible—bright lights, loud noises, and removing food sources can encourage them to leave on their own.

If you come across an injured or abandoned animal, North Country Wild Care's hotline is available 24/7 at 📞 518-964-6740. Keep our number on hand—you never know when a wild friend might need help!

Take a moment to open your windows and enjoy the sounds of spring — the birds are chirping, geese are honking, and eagles are calling. Nature is waking up! 🌼

If you need to re-register your pet's microchip due to Save This Life discontinuing its services, please follow these simple steps:

STEP 1:
Locate your pet’s 15 digit microchip number:
- On any recent invoices from The Animal Hospital.
- On the pet’s tag or the barcode stickers provided when your pet was initially microchipped.
- Or by calling our office at 518-456-0852.

STEP 2:
Register the number with one of the following microchip databases, or any other national database of your choosing.

- Freepetchipregistry.com
This is a FREE database that is connected to the AAHA Universal Pet Microchip Lookup that will accept Save This Life microchip numbers.

- Petlink.net
The microchip company that we are using for our patients moving forward. They will accept Save This Life microchip numbers into their database.
*Please note there is a fee associated with this option. Discount code "VEDCO" will bring the registration fee to $9.99!
....Even if your pet's microchip was not effected by this abrupt change, we suggest making sure your dog's Rabies Tag (that was supplied at their last Rabies vaccination) is on their collar. These have our hospital name and phone number on them and could help reunite them with your family if they ever become lost.

It is also advisable to make sure that you are checking your pet's microchip number on an annual basis to ensure that the information available in the database is up to date and accurate.

Please do not hesitate to reach out to us if you have any questions regarding your pet's microchip (and they are our patient, of course)!

One of the most common New Year's Resolutions is to make healthier choices. Whether it's modifying your diet or working exercise into your busy schedule, you can take your pet along for the journey in 2025!
Statistics show that having a work out partner makes you show up more frequently and work harder. Sure, your dog won't necessarily hold you accountable for skipping the early morning walk because the bed is much cozier, but they probably would appreciate the physical and mental stimulation (...and honestly, who knows what that judgmental side eye is REALLY about?)! Including your dog in your work out routine can also help with behavioral issues - the more fulfilled a dog is mentally and physically, the less energy they have to get into mischief or bark obsessively at every leaf that blows across the front porch.
Veterinary medicine is seeing a steady increase of obesity in pets, which can lead to chronic joint and respiratory issues, makes anesthesia riskier and inevitably can shorten their lives. It takes a LOT of exercise for a cat or dog to lose weight, so in some cases a dietary change might be recommended when we're trying to knock off a few pounds. Here are a few tips and tricks to consider if you're including your pet in your New Year's Resolution to create healthier habits, provided by The American Animal Hospital Association:
