Halloween pet safety PSA:

Keep decorations out of reach
Candles, fake cobwebs, glow sticks etc. all can pose a hazard to pets if chewed on and ingested or knocked over.

Keep candy out of reach
Chocolate, the artificial sweetener Xylitol (aka Birch Sugar), and Raisins are toxic to dogs.

For our trick-or-treat hosts:
All of the new foot traffic, strangers, doorbells and loud noises can be extremely stressful and overwhelming for our pets.
It can lead to anxiety, escape attempts from the constant opening of doors, and fear based aggression.
Try to keep them in a quite, secure location for the evening that is away from the front door.

Seek medical attention if your pet is showing symptoms of:
vomiting or diarrhea
Lethargy or collapse
Seizures or tremors
Difficulty breathing
Ingestion of foreign objects or toxic substances

Our compounding pharmacy, Wedgewood has issued a voluntary recall of medications filled through them which might be subpotent or superpotent.
Please check to see if you have received a product from Wedgewood between February 18, 2026 and October 6, 2026.
If you have, please check their list of affected products at: https://www.wedgewood.com/recall-lookup/
Animal owners who have received affected product should stop use, retain the product, and contact Wedgewood’s recall services by phone at 866-562-5931 Monday through Friday 8am – 9pm ET and Saturday 9am to 5pm ET.

Will you be protecting your pet’s during the cold seasons?

It’s best if FLEA, TICK, and HEARTWORM prevention medications are given regularly year-round. Even during the “OFF SEASON,” it’s important to keep your pet protected.

Here’s WHY:
Heartworm transmission can occur year-round.
as mosquitoes remain active during warm weather or indoors. Consistent use of preventives is crucial, because heartworm preventives work by targeting newly acquired, immature infections. (And your pet can be infected for 6 months or more before testing positive for the infection! 👀)

Fleas can survive winter.
They can persist in protected outdoor areas and, especially, inside homes. Once established indoors, they can reproduce year-round. (A flea's lifecycle is three months on average, but flea pupae can remain in that stage for as long as a year)

Ticks can be active during winter.
Ticks become active when temperatures rise above freezing (usually around 40F), regardless of if there is snow in the ground. Snow and cold weather don’t eliminate the risk of ticks.

Rabies elimination is only possible when we work together.
World Rabies Day is held on September 28th to recognize Louis Pasteur who created the first rabies vaccine.
Worldwide 70,000 people are killed by rabies infection annually, which makes routine immunizations for dogs, cats, and pet ferrets crucial.
Because despite public health efforts, dogs and cat’s are still being diagnosed with rabies in the U.S.
Rabies vaccination is the key to prevention!
