Regular dental exams by a veterinarian are crucial for maintaining your cat's overall health. They can help detect dental disease, which cats often hide, and assess any pain or issues. Dental problems can lead to serious complications in your cat's heart, liver, and kidneys. Read up on why dental exams are important for your cat at https://bit.ly/2TZ68JR.

Study of 175 dogs shows eating dark, leafy greens reduces cancer risk by 90% 🥬

In this 2005 study, 92 Scottish Terriers with urinary tract cancer were compared with 83 without cancer. Their pet parents were asked to fill out a detailed questionnaire about their dog's diet in the year prior (before their diagnosis).

The results were striking.

In dogs who were eating dark green, leafy vegetables more than 3 times a week, the risk of cancer fell by 90%. That's veggies like kale, spinach, and broccoli. They also found that dogs eating yellow-orange vegetables, such as carrots & pumpkins, more than 3 times a week, reduced their cancer risk by 70% 🤯

Of course, there are limitations to this study - not least that pet parents were being asked to remember what their dog had eaten up to a year previously.

Can you remember what you were feeding your dog a year ago? Genuine question - maybe you can. So too, 175 dogs is not the smallest sample size we've seen in animal studies of this nature, but it's not huge either, increasing the chance that this could be luck (or bad luck in the cases of the poor dogs with cancer). Again, can we extrapolate from Scottish terriers to all dogs?

Nonetheless, we find this an interesting study - what do you think? 🧐
