💕 Honoring Decker 💕

With heavy hearts, we share that one of our Humane Society alums, Decker, crossed the Rainbow Bridge on July 31, 2025.

Decker came to us in 2012 and spent 7 months in the shelter before being recruited by the National Disaster Search Dog Foundation. From there, his life was transformed.

Paired with firefighter Brent Brainard of San Diego Fire-Rescue, Decker went on to serve on major missions:

🌊 Hurricane Harvey – Texas (2017)
🌊 Hurricane Irma – Florida (2017)
🌧️ Mudslides – Montecito, CA (2018)
🌊 Hurricane Lane – Hawaii (2018)
🪨 Bluff Collapse – Encinitas, CA (2019)

After retiring in 2021, Decker enjoyed his golden years with Brent until his peaceful passing.

From shelter dog to hero, Decker’s story is a reminder of the incredible second chances waiting within our walls. His name will live on at the Canine Memorial Wall in Santa Paula, CA.

A good toy keeps me happy.

I'm kinda the best of both worlds.
One minute I’m zooming,
The next, I’m snuggled up for cuddles.

I'm what you call an extrovert.
People or dogs,

💍 Ring Bearer at Heart 💍

He didn’t just say “I do” to his new family, he got to walk down the aisle with them, too!

This sweet boy has truly been living the dream! He got to be part of his parents’ wedding day, traveling by their side as they started their new life together in Georgia. 🍑

He loves his walks, chasing deer, squirrels, and bunnies, and visiting his grandparents in Michigan—especially when there’s snow to play in! ❄️

Eskimo is proof that every dog deserves a storybook ending. 💙
